Analysis of 31 STR loci in the genetic isolate of Carloforte (Sardinia, Italy) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Robledo,Renato; Piras,Ignazio; Beggs,William; Calò,Carla.
The genotypes of 31 autosomal short tandem repeat loci in the population of Carloforte were analyzed, these representing a linguistic and genetic isolate located on the island of Sardinia (Italy). The markers span the entire length of chromosomes 19, 20, 21 and 22. Allele frequencies and statistical parameters were presented for all loci. Observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.279 to 0.884, and polymorphism information content from 0.552 to 0.886. All but two loci showed Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium after Bonferroni correction. The 31 short tandem repeat loci examined in the present work provide additional data on the genetic structure of the Carloforte population.

North-easternmost record of Halosaurus ovenii (Actinopterygii: Notacanthiformes: Halosauridae) in the Mediterranean Sea, with notes on its biology ArchiMer
Pais, Antonio; Merella, Paolo; Follesa, Maria Cristina; Motomura, Hiroyuki.
A single adult female specimen of Halosaurus ovenii Johnson, 1864 was captured by trammel nets at a depth of about 200 in off the coast of Arbatax (Sardinia, Italy) in early April 2007. Macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the gonad showed a postspawning ovary. This is the fourth documented capture of this fish in the Mediterranean Sea, representing the north-easternmost record for this species in this geographic area. Furthermore, the present specimen was fished at the shallowest depth ever recorded before.

Taxonomy and distribution of the Trifurcula (Glaucolepis) raikhonae group (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae) Naturalis
Nieukerken, E.J. van; Purplesis, R..
Trifurcula (Glaucolepis) melanoptera sp. n. is described from southern Europe, where it is widespread. It is closely related to the Central Asian T. (Glaucolepis) raikhonae Puplesis, which is redescribed. Together they form the raikhonae species group. Sinopticula Yang is here synonymized with Glaucolepis Braun, its only species S. sinica Yang is tentatively regarded as closely related, if not conspecific with T. raikhonae. The distribution is mapped. On the basis of recent Chinese findings the larvae are assumed to be gall-makers on Prunus branches. Some phylogenetic and biogeographic remarks are given.

Stigmella rolandi sp. n.: a widespread southern European species on Rosa (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae). Naturalis
Nieukerken, E.J. van.
Stigmella rolandi sp. n., belonging to the Stigmella sangaisorbae group, is described from southern Europe. It has previously been misidentified as S. spinosissimae Waters, a western European species. The species is characterized by a costal hair pencil on the male hindwing. The distribution is mapped, and the biology described: the larva feeds on Rosa and Sangclisorba.

Technical Efficiency in the Sheep Dairy Industry: an Application on the Sardinian (Italy) Sector AgEcon
Furesi, Roberto; Madau, Fabio A.; Pulina, Pietro.
Sardinia (Italy) is one of the most important European regions for sheep dairy and sheep milk cheese production. However the Sardinian sheep dairy industry is currently going through a dramatic crisis, and verifying whether it can recover part of its profitability is now a priority. Attention is now focused on estimating whether the sheep dairy firms can improve their productivity by more efficient use of their available technical resources. This paper aims to estimate technical efficiency in the Sardinian sheep dairy industry. A stochastic frontier analysis approach was used on panel data from 36 sheep dairy firms over the period 2004-2009 in order to assess whether there are some margins for technical improvements in productivity, given the existing...

Efficacy of European Policies on Rural Landscape: the Case Study of Sardinia (ITALY) AgEcon
Idda, Lorenzo; Madau, Fabio A.; Orru, Elia; Pulina, Pietro; Sini, Maria Paola.
Over the last decades, a large number of developed countries have explicitly recognized the importance of benefits generated from agricultural and rural landscape into their legislation. Since the early '90, preservation and enhancing of rural landscape has played an increasing role also into the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) promoted by the European Union (EU). More generally, the whole European rural development policy seems to recognize an important role to the keeping of agricultural and rural landscape. The present work is a part of a wider research aimed to identify rational instruments for guidance policies on rural landscape. The specific purpose of this paper is to evaluate efficacy of Sardinian (Italy) regional policies on rural landscape. In...
