Floristic composition and distribution of soil seed bank in Subtropical Ombrophilous Alluvial Forest in Araucaria, Parana State, Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Silva-Weber, Ariadne Josiane Castoldi; Nogueira, Antonio Carlos; Carpanezzi, Antonio Aparecido; Galvão, Franklin; Weber, Saulo Henrique.
In this research it was evaluated the potential of the soil seed bank in a remaining of Subtropical Ombrophilous Alluvial Forest (Araucaria Forest), by quali-quantitative analysis of seed germination. Additionally it was tested the occurrence of seasonal variation of the soil seed bank. The forest remaining located in Araucaria county, Parana State, Brazil, and it is influenced by Barigui river, affluent of Iguaçu river. It was used the completely randomized experimental design with ten replications. The soil seed bank was collected in three seasons at depth (of 10 cm plus litter), using a 0.40 m x 0.40 m sample square. The collected samples were placed in wood boxes in greenhouse, during 8 months. It was observed a season average of 5,732 individuals m-2,...

Biologia reprodutiva de Echinometra lucunter (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) na Praia da Costa, Vila Velha, Espírito Santo Rev. Bras. Zool.
Mariante,Fátima L. F.; Lemos,Gabriela B.; Eutrópio,Frederico J.; Gomes,Levy C..
Echinometra lucunter Linnaeus, 1758 is a tropical sea urchin with strong bioerosive potential. Consequently, this species has great ecological importance. The species occurs in high densities along the Brazilian coast, particularly in the south and southeast. The objective of this work was to evaluate both the effects of annual seasonality and the lunar cycle on the reproduction of E. lucunter. Individuals were sampled monthly for a period of one year and during four complete lunar cycles. The gonadosomatic index (GI) was calculated to determine the annual and monthly reproductive peaks based on the lunar phase. The sex ratio (male:female) was 1:1.04, without significant difference in sexual proportion. The GI was significantly higher for males than for...

Dípteros caliptrados (Muscidae e Anthomyiidae) da região metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, RJ: II. Atratividade e freqüência sazonal Zoologia
d'Almeida,José Mario.
Nine thousand, six hundred and ninety-one flies of the family Muscidae (47 species) and Anthomyiidae (2 species) were captured. Flies were collected in three ecologically distinct areas (urban, rural and forest) within the metropolitan region of the city of Rio de Janeiro using as baits decomposing fish, bovine liver, fresh human faeces and mashed banana with sugar. Fish attracted the highest number of flies all over the year. Large number of flies were always collected in the summer and spring but reduced in the winter. Among several species of flies, Atherigona orientalis Schiner, 1868, Musca domestica Linnaeus, 1758 and Synthesiomya nudiseta (Wulp, 1883) were always frequent.
