The objective of this study was to compare tests used to identify vigor in soybean seeds and to establish a model that relates the seeds’ vigor, as determined in the laboratory, with field emergence. Five soybean cultivars were evaluated based on their germination, sand emergence, immersion in sodium hypochlorite, accelerated aging, controlled deterioration, cold test, seedling growth, electrical conductivity, tetrazolium, emergence percentage, seedling length in the field and seedling dry weight. The experimental design was completely randomized and means were compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability. CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive and aromatic rice line derived from a cross between PSBRc54 and IR22. The single cross hybridization was made in 2006 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2007-2008. The line CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 110 cm height on transplanting and 105 cm height on germinated seed broadcasting; 117 days maturity on transplanting and 106 days maturity on germinated seed broadcasting. Development of new CMS lines by backcrossing was conducted at Suphan Buri Rice Research Center during 2005-2011. The objective was to develop Thai elite breeding lines to be better varieties of CMS lines adapted to the environment in Thailand. The new CMS lines will be used for research project on hybrid rice production. CMS lines from IRRI were used as donor in repeated backcrossing of 6-7 generations to the recurrent parent, Thai elite breeding line. After seven generations of repeated backcrossing two new CMS lines, SPR06186A (IR58025A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2) and SPR06189A (IR73328A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2), were developed. In wet season, the rainfed area in the Lower North of Thailand region has abundance soil and water. It’s suitable for grow the rice variety which high yield potential.
