Notes on the biology of the bigeye scad, Selar crumenophthalmus (Carangidae) around Reunion Island, southwest Indian Ocean ArchiMer
Roos, David; Roux, Olivier; Conand, François.
The main characteristics of the biology of bigeye scad were studied from commercial fishery catches around Reunion Island. Biometric relationships were calculated. The monitoring of size distribution, aggregated by month, allowed us to estimate the theoretical growth equation using the ELEFAN software. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were adjusted with a seasonal modulation: L8 = 265 mm; K = 1.64 year-1; c = 0.068; ? = 0.38. The growth of the cohort was quite high during the austral summer (November-April) and decreased during the austral winter (May-October). The arrival of a new cohort with homogeneous small sizes (65 to 90 mm) in the fishery in November coincided with the disappearance of large individuals. A feature of the reproductive biology...

Metazoan parasites of some commercially important fish along the Kenyan coast OceanDocs
Aloo, P.A.; Anam, R.O.; Mwangi, J.N..
The parasitic fauna of some commercial fish species along the Kenyan coast was investigated at four localities between August 2001 and March 2002. The study was carried out to establish the extent of parasitisation of different fish species and quantify the relationship between the parasites and their fish hosts. Fish samples were collected once a month from four landing beaches. Sixteen fish species were examined out of which only eight were infested with ecto-and endo parasites. The infested fish species included: the rabbitfish (Siganus sutor), the mackerels (Selar crumenophthalmus, Scomberomorus commerson and Rastrelliger kanarguta), parrot fish (Leptoscarus vagiensis), sardine (Sardinella gibbosa), tuna (Thunnus sp.) and needle fish (Hemiramphus far)....

INFLUENCIA DE LA FASE LUNAR EN LAS TASAS DE CAPTURA DE Selar crumenophthalmus (CARANGIDAE) EN EL CARIBE DE COLOMBIA. UNA APROXIMACIÓN POR MODELOS LINEALES GENERALIZADOS Acta biol.Colomb.
ALTAMAR,JAIRO; PARRAGA,DIANA; DUARTE,LUIS ORLANDO.
