Ultra Wide Swath Sea interferometric multibeam echo sounder with sea bottom imaging system. ArchiMer
Hammerstad, E; Pohner, F.
The SIMRAD EM12 is a new full ocean depth multibeam echo sounder, operating at 13 kHz. By use of interferometric signal processing techniques it will achieve an ultra wide swath geometry of 150 degrees, corresponding to 7.5 times the depth of water. The system will in addition to the bathymetry produce a fully corrected sidescan sonar image of the seafloor, on to the depth soundings, the EM12 has the capability to generate a sidescan image of the seabed.

Time series analysis of marine data: a key knowledge at the crossroads of marine sciences ArchiMer
Puillat, Ingrid; Prevosto, Marc; Mercier, Herle; Thomas, S..
In our time emerged the idea of a major environmental degradation, at both local and global scales, in the face of the recurrent human pollution. Consequently in the sake of a sustainable humanity development, of the ethic and of the ecology, the protection and the monitoring of our environment have become a major stake. Many scientific and technical tools contributed to improve the environmental knowledge, as helped remote and in situ observations, and forecast modeling. In situ environmental sensor systems have been designed to be increasingly sustainable even in a hostile environment such as the deep ocean. In a similar way, the infrastructures hosting those sensors are now thought and built to be permanent. In marine sciences these considerations gave...

Communications optiques sous-marines : Transmission longue-portée haut-débit et analyse des performances ArchiMer
Hamza, Tasnim.
Today we are witnessing a growing need to high-rate data transmission in underwater missions in a wide range of application areas. Within this context, traditional cable- or fiber-based communications imply costly deployments with very limited flexibility, andthe conventional acoustic communications offer very low operational performance. Recently, with the development of small and low-cost optoelectronic components and devices, it has become feasible to realize small and compact wireless optical communication transceivers providing unprecedentedly high transmission rates and energy efficiency. However, there still remain several shortcomings of this technology, in particular to attain high data rates over relatively long communication ranges. In order to...

Acoustique sous-marine. Présentation et applications ArchiMer
Lurton, Xavier.
Sound waves are the only practical means of remote investigation and transmission in seawater. All along the XXth century, underwater acoustics became one of the major technologies used for exploration and exploitation of the oceans for scientific, industrial, or military purposes. It is nowadays able to play, inside the oceans, the roles devoted to radio and radar in atmosphere and space, and is widely employed in the fields of navigation, fisheries, defence, oceanography and ocean engineering. This book presents, in a clear and concise way, the basic physical phenomena governing underwater acoustical waves, the general features of sonar systems, and an overview of their applications.

Intelligent instrument to facilitate decision making in the evaluation of soil resistance to root penetration Scientia Agricola
Rabello,Ladislau Marcelino; Cruvinel,Paulo Estevão.
This contribution introduces an instrument for decision-making in agricultural processes based on the measurements and mapping of soil resistance to root penetration. Its development was based on a new and advanced instrumentation tool, enabling in almost real-time to acquire the necessary information for spatial variability analysis of plant root penetration resistance in soils, due to natural or artificial soil compaction processes, i.e., not only for an area of soil but also for a soil profile. The system allows soil resistance assays for both laboratory and agricultural fields. Moreover, the development focused on an intelligent instrumentation concept, as well as a microprobe (30º for the spire angle, 1,6 mm for the base diameter, and 30 mm of total...

Maintenance management of tractors and agricultural machinery: Preventive maintenance systems CIGR Journal
Khodabakhshian, Rasool.
Agricultural machinery maintenance has a crucial role for successful agricultural production.  It aims at guaranteeing the safety of operations and availability of machines and related equipment for cultivation operation.  Moreover, it is one major cost for agriculture operations.  Thus, the increased competition in agricultural production demands maintenance improvement, aiming at the reduction of maintenance expenditures while keeping the safety of operations.  This issue is addressed by the methodology presented in this paper.  So, the aim of this paper was to give brief introduction to various preventive maintenance systems specially condition-based maintenance (CBM) techniques, selection of condition monitoring techniques and understanding of...

Computerized invasive measurement of time-dependent intraocular pressure BJMBR
Campos,T.V.O.; Jacobovitz,S.; Almeida,H.G.; Massensini,A.R.; Moraes,M.F.D..
Several methods have been described to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) in clinical and research situations. However, the measurement of time varying IOP with high accuracy, mainly in situations that alter corneal properties, has not been reported until now. The present report describes a computerized system capable of recording the transitory variability of IOP, which is sufficiently sensitive to reliably measure ocular pulse peak-to-peak values. We also describe its characteristics and discuss its applicability to research and clinical studies. The device consists of a pressure transducer, a signal conditioning unit and an analog-to-digital converter coupled to a video acquisition board. A modified Cairns trabeculectomy was performed in 9 Oryctolagus...
