IBSS Repository

Proniewski, F.
Morphological change of an estuary is the major factor of estuarine populations distribution. Biological zonation follows sedimentary changes, in particular, silting.

Degradation of the riparian wetlands in the Lake Victoria basin - Yala swamp case study OceanDocs
Thenya, Thuita; Wassmann, Reiner; Verchot, Louis; Mungai, David.
Land degradation is as a result of broad range of scales and factors, which include biophysical, climatic, demographic and socio-economic. The aim of this paper was to provide an analysis of wetland utilisation, ecosystem degradation and their effect on the Lake Victoria (Kenya) ecosystem. This involved analysis of socioeconomic and remote sensed data. The main sources of wetland degradation in the Lake Victoria basin were identified as (1) farming activities, (2) grazing and macrophyte harvesting and (3) coupled with catchment degradation-deforestation. These factors were closely related to the demographic dynamics and unsustainable land utilisation practices. Socio-economic data provided valuable insight on the pattern of wetland utilisation and possible...

Sediment Morphology, Distribution, and Recent Transport Dynamics in a Reforested Fragment Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Bovi,Renata Cristina; Silva,Laura Fernanda Simões da; Zenero,Mariana Delgado Oliveira; Carvalho,Camila Carolina de; Cooper,Miguel.
Abstract Erosion generates large amounts of sediment, which may be deposited at the site of origin, on the slope of a hill, or along waterways. The transportability of each type of sediment by runoff and its potential for subsequent deposition largely depends on its morphological features and particle size distribution. The aim of this study is to describe and characterize the morphology and micromorphology of sediments deposited in a reforested area and to understand the dynamics of the transport process. In order to understand the sedimentation processes, the following analyses were performed: particle size distribution, with and without the use of a dispersant solution; statistical analysis of the sand fraction using Folk and Ward parameters; sediment...
