Internal architecture of an incised valley-fill on a wave- and tide-dominated coast (the Leyre incised valley, Bay of Biscay, France). ArchiMer
Fenies, Hugues; Lericolais, Gilles.
internal architecture of an incised valley-fill on a wave- and tide-dominated coast (the Leyre incised valley, Bay of Biscay, France). The Leyre incised valley shows a specific strata architecture related to its wave- and tide-dominated depositional environment. The low-stand systems tract has been totally eroded by the tidal ravinement surface and the valley is entirely filled by the transgressive systems tract. The Leyre and the Gironde incised valleys have been formed within the same depositional environment and the same stratigraphic framework. Consequently, the description of the internal architecture of the Leyre incised valley enables to complete the stratigraphic model of the wave- and tide-dominated incised valleys set up by Allen et Posamentier...

Un modèle géométrique et stratigraphique des séquences de dépôts quaternaires sur la marge du golfe du lion : enregistrement des cycles climatiques de 100 000 ans ArchiMer
Rabineau, Marina.
The up to 70 km wide continental shelf of the Golfe du Lion has been the object of numerous investigationss since the early days of Oceanography. Yet several key questions have remained unanswered and are still controversial. Among these questions are: What are the relationships between sedimentary sequences, Quaternary glacioeustatic cycles and tectonics? What is the sequence duration? What are the mechanisms of deposition? A study of the Very High Resolution (VHR) seismic reflection (Sparker) data collected by Ifremer between 1992 and 1998 on the outer shelf and upper slope offshore of Sète in the Languedoc region gives a new insight into these issues. The surveyed area covers 40 x 40 km with a line spacing of 400-1000 m. Useful depth of penetration is...

Analyse des processus sedimentaires recents dans l'eventail profond du Danube (mer Noire) ArchiMer
Popescu, Irina.
This study is focusing on the architecture and recent sedimentary evolution of the Danube channel, the youngest channel-levee system in the Danube deep-sea fan. The study was conducted as part of the BlaSON French-Romanian Project, and combined high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles and chirp profiles with multibeam bathymetry and piston cores. This data set was acquired in 1998 during a joint survey IFREMER-GeoEcoMar of the north-western Black Sea. Previous seismic and acoustic data were also used. The Danube deep-sea fan is a large passive-margin mud-rich fan. Like the other systems of this type (Amazon fan, Mississippi fan or Indus fan) the Danube fan consists of stacked channel-levee systems intercalated with mass-transport deposits. Seismic and...

Évolution pléistocène de la Seine fluviatile préservée en Baie de Seine ArchiMer
Benabdellouahed, Massinissa; Dugue, Olivier; Tessier, Bernadette; Thinon, Isabelle; Guennoc, Pol.
New high-resolution seismic data complemented with bedrock samples allowed us to propose a revised geological map of the Bay of Seine and to better define the control by the geological substrate on the morphogenesis and evolution of the Seine River during Pleistocene times. The new data confirm previous works. The Bay of Seine can be divided into two geological parts: a Mesozoic monocline domain occupying most of the bay and a syncline domain, mostly Tertiary, in the north, at the transition with the Central English Channel area. The highlighting of Eocene synsedimentary deformations, marked by sliding blocks in the syncline domain, is one of the most original inputs of this new study in the Bay of Seine that underlines the significant role of the...
