Muscle Response to the Association of Statin and Physical Exercise in Rats International Journal of Morphology
Bonfim,Mariana Rotta; Camargo Filho,José Carlos Silva; Vanderlei,Luiz Carlos Marques; Padulla,Susimary Aparecida Trevizan; Accioly,Marilita Falângola; Souza,Dorotéia Rossi Silva; Azoubel,Reinaldo.
Physical exercise and statins, which are recommended for the treatment of dyslipidemia, are independently associated to the occurrence of muscle injury. The objective is analyze the effect of aerobic exercise associated to the use of simvastatin on the morphology of the gastrocnemius muscle. Thirty Wistar rats were divided into six groups, two of which received a standard diet (1 sedentary and 1 exercised) and four (1 sedentary with medication, 1 sedentary without medication, 1 exercised with medication, 1 exercised without medication) received a hypercholesterolemic diet (standard diet with the addition of cholesterol and coconut oil). Simvastatin (20 mg/Kg) was administered five days a week for eight weeks, together with aerobic training on a treadmill...

Effects of Passive Smoking Associated with Physical Exercise in the Skeletal Muscles of Rats During Pregnancy and Lactation International Journal of Morphology
Valsoni,Bruna Corral Garcia; Bonfim,Mariana Rotta; Camargo,Regina Celi Trindade; Abreu,Luiz Carlos de; Souza,Dorotéia Rossi Silva; Camargo Filho,José Carlos Silva.
The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of passive smoking, in soleus and gastrocnemius muscles associated with physical exercise by swimming during pregnancy and lactation of rats. Twenty-four rats were divided: GF (exposed to cigarette smoke), GC (control), GFN (underwent to the swimming program and exposed to cigarette smoke) and GN (underwent to the swimming program). On the first day of pregnancy procedure of exposure to cigarette smoke began, consisting in 30 minutes twice a day for six weeks. During the same period the swimming program began, which lasted 60 min every day untilthe 21st day of lactation. Soleus and gastrocnemius muscles, were obtained for histological, histochemical, morphometric analysis and fiber profiling. In...

Histomorphometric Evaluation of Soleus and Lateral Gastrocnemius Muscles of Animals Submitted to Pharmacological Manipulation with Fluoxetine International Journal of Morphology
Caiaffo,Vitor; Ribeiro,Alice Sá Carneiro; de Oliveira,Belisa Duarte Ribeiro; de Albuquerque,Yuri Mateus Lima; de Moraes,Silvia Regina Arruda.
The pharmacological manipulation with selective inhibitor of serotonin reuptake (SSRIs) can modify the operation of the serotonergic system and may facilitate or inhibit the action of this system, inducing changes in the morphology of the skeletal muscle of rats. The objective of this study was to evaluate the action of the treatment with fluoxetine during the critical period of the animal´s life on development of the soleus and lateral gastrocnemius muscles, under the aspects of weight, the number of nuclei of myocyte cells and cross-sectional area of muscle fibers. Twenty four (30 and 90-day-old) male Wistar rats were used. They were treated with saline solution (NaCl 0.9%; 1 ml/100 g of body weight) or fluoxetine (10 mg; 1 ml/100g of body weight). The...

Rimonabant improves metabolic parameters partially attributed to restoration of high voltage-activated Ca2+ channels in skeletal muscle in HFD-fed mice BJMBR
Chen,B.; Hu,N..
Cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R) inhibition tends to be one of the promising strategies for the treatment of obesity and other related metabolic disorders. Although CB1R inhibition may cause adverse psychiatric effects including depression and anxiety, the investigation of the role of peripheral CB1R on weight loss and related metabolic parameters are urgently needed. We first explored the effect of rimonabant, a selective CB1R antagonist/inverse agonist, on some metabolic parameters in high fat-diet (HFD)-induced obesity in mice. Then, real-time PCR and electrophysiology were used to explore the contribution of high voltage-activated Ca2+ channels (HVACCs), especially Cav1.1, on rimonabant's effect in skeletal muscle (SM) in HFD-induced obesity....
