Mutation induction as a strategy to overcome the restricted genetic base in Physalis Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Trevisani,Nicole; Melo,Rita Carolina de; Bernardy,João Pedro Fossa; Pierre,Patrícia Maria Oliveira; Coimbra,Jefferson Luís Meirelles; Guidolin,Altamir Frederico.
Abstract The restricted genetic base in physalis in Southern Brazil is a challenge that requires genetic breeding for the achievement of fruits with superior agronomic quality. Therefore, genetic changes were induced in physalis for the selection of populations with superior fruit quality. To that end, seven populations of physalis were submitted to gamma irradiation (0,100 and 200 Grays – Gy), which provided 21 populations. Significant population difference was observed, which indicates the existence of variability between at least two populations of physalis. The contrasts showed difference for Colômbia01, Colômbia02, Caçador and CAV. The mutation induction was effective at causing genetic variations in these populations. For Colombia01 (100 Gy), it was...

Bioactive compounds, antioxidant and physic-chemical characteristics of the dovyalis fruit Agronomy
Rotili, Maria Cristina Copello; Villa, Fabíola; Braga, Gilberto Costa; França, Daiane Luckmann Balbinotti de; Rosanelli, Solivan; Laureth, Jessica Cristina Urbanski; Silva, Daniel Fernandes da.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity, and physicochemical characteristics of dovyalis fruit to obtain technological knowledge about this fruit when grown under the conditions found in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon, Paraná State, Brazil. Dovyalis fruits from the State University of Western Parana, which was established in 2012, were harvested in March 2016. Dovyalis fruits were collected from several plants and were divided among three lots. After the harvest, were immediately taken to the Post-Harvest Laboratory for evaluation of the antioxidant activity by the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP methods. The physicochemical characteristics of the fruits and the total phenolic compounds, flavonoids,...

Storability of ‘Tupy’ and ‘Guarani’ blackberries in controlled atmosphere Bragantia
Brackmann,Auri; Anese,Rogerio de Oliveira; Thewes,Fabio Rodrigo; Fronza,Diniz; Hamann,Jonas Janner.
ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to compare the storage potential of ‘Guarani’ and ‘Tupy’ blackberries in controlled atmosphere (CA) and thereafter to determinate the best CA storage conditions for ‘Tupy’ blackberries. Two experiments were carried out. In the first one, ‘Guarani’ and ‘Tupy’ blackberries were stored in CA condition (10 kPa O2 + 15 kPa CO2). We found that ‘Tupy’ blackberry has the best storage potential. Therefore, in the second experiment, several CA conditions were evaluated for ‘Tupy’ blackberries storage, as follows: [1] cold storage (CS): 20.9 kPa O2 + 0.04 kPa CO2; [2] CA with 10 kPa O2 + 15 kPa CO2; [3] CA with 5 kPa O2 + 15 kPa CO2; [4] CA with 10 kPa O2 + 10 kPa CO2. All treatments were stored at 1 °C and 98% (± 1) of relative...

Interaction between maturity stages and temperature on quality of ‘Guarani’ blackberries stored under controlled atmosphere Ciência Rural
Brackmann,Auri; Thewes,Fabio Rodrigo; Anese,Rogerio de Oliveira; Gasperin,Adriano Roque de; Fronza,Diniz.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to evaluate the interaction between maturity stages and temperature on fruit quality of ‘Guarani’ blackberries stored under controlled atmosphere (CA). The experiment was conducted in a factorial scheme (2x2), evaluating two ripening stages (E1: red-color and E2: black-color of fruits) and two temperatures (1°C and 5°C). The fruit were stored in CA (10.0kPa O2+15.0kPa CO2) and 98±1% of relative humidity (RH). Results showed that the principal component 1 (PC I) and principal component 2 (PC II) corresponded to 92.84% of the overall variation of the evaluated variables. Harvest should not be performed in the early maturity stage, because ‘Guarani’ blackberries do not develop all quality of consumer. ‘Guarani’...

General aspects of physalis cultivation Ciência Rural
Muniz,Janaína; Kretzschmar,Aike Anneliese; Rufato,Leo; Pelizza,Tânia Regina; Rufato,Andrea De Rossi; Macedo,Tiago Afonso de.
The Physalis peruviana L. is an exotic fruit that belongs to the Solanaceae family with recent production in Brazil. This is presented as an alternative production with nutritional potential and economic value. The cape gooseberry plant has a high added value that can be used from its root to the fruit itself. The roots and leaves are rich in medicinal properties that are used in pharmacology. The fruit is sweet and have good content of vitamins A, C, iron, phosphorus and fiber, often used in making jellies, jams, juices and ice creams. To improve the plant canopy, but also contribute to the quality and appearance of the fruit produced some cultural practices such as staking, training systems, pruning and thinning are used. The aim of this review is to...
