Maharjan, Keshav Lall; Khatri-Chhetri, Arun.
One of the main development goals of Nepal is to reduce the number of chronically undernourished people all over the country by half by the year 2015. In consonance to this, this study examines food security and its relationship with socio-economic characteristics among rural households in the remote western mountains of Nepal. Accordingly, the relationship between household's resource endowment and food security status was analyzed based on the calorie requirement for all household members according to their sex and age. The food security measures applied in this paper are Head Count Method, Food Insecurity Gap, and Squared Food Insecurity Gap to capture successively more detailed aspects of the food insecurity status of the household. Impacts of socio-economic factors on farm household dynamics - empirical survey data in an agent-based model application AgEcon
Schnicke, Hauke Joachim.
This paper addresses three issues of socio-economic factors of Hungarian farm households and their impacts on structural change. This concerns the role of age as a factor influencing the opportunity costs of labour, the impact of empirical age patterns on structural change, and the role of a varied probability of young farm successors entering into the farming business. Results of a farm household survey are integrated in simulation experiments with the agent-based model AgriPoliS which has been adapted to a Hungarian case study region. It could be shown that impediments of a flexible labour adjustment slow down structural change while the timing of persisting or exiting of farms highly depends on the age distribution of farmers.

Higuchi,Angie; Dávalos,Jorge.
A. Higuchi, and J. Dávalos. 2016. Unveiling Peruvian organic consumers demand for organics: A latent class approach. Cien. Inv. Agr. 43(3): 408-417. This paper seeks to identify the consumer segments that constitute the market for organic products in Metropolitan Lima, Peru. The employed classification methodology, Latent Class Analysis, is implemented within a structural framework that is capable of identifying key relations such as the link between educational attainment and organic product consumption. This study builds on primary data gathered at the study site involving interviews with 547 organic consumers at a limited number of bio-fairs and bio-shops. Our results identify two segments: core and middle-level consumers. Although both segments exhibit...
