Pedological characterization and land use and occupation: influences on water quality in a watershed located in the zona da mata (MG) REA
Andrade,Luana C. R.; Marques,Eduardo A. G.; Felicori,Thaís de C..
In order to verify the influence of class and use and occupation of land on water quality, it was performed the characterization and analyzes of land use and monitoring of seven springs inserted in a watershed located in the rural of Viçosa city - Minas Gerais (MG) state, in Brazil. Through soil analyzes, carried out in five different profiles, it was possible to identify three distinct pedological classes: Argisol, Cambisol and Latosol. Furthermore, the concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cr, Cd, Pb and Ni were identified in each of the horizons in the considered profiles. Water samples were collected and analyzed monthly, over eight months, twenty two parameters of water quality. Comparing the results of each survey, it was possible to identify a relation...

The Value of Inherent Soil Characteristics: A Hedonic Analysis AgEcon
Samarasinghe, Oshadhi; Greenhalgh, Suzie.
In an attempt to value soil natural capital, we use the inherent characteristics of soil and land valuation data to examine the relationship between soil characteristics and rural farmland values in the 6000ks2 Manawatu catchment in New Zealand. The study applies a hedonic pricing method to determine if the value of ‘critical’ inherent characteristics of soils are reflected in land values. We find empirical evidence that the examined characteristics of soil natural capital stock, e.g., particle size, drainage, potential rooting depth and profile available water, are in fact reflected in rural land values.

Study on soil characteristics under different types of forest in Sakaerat Environmental Research Station Nakhon Ratchasima province was carried out on eight representative soils including an area of secondary mixed deciduous forest (Skr 1), two sites of dry dipterocarp forest (Skr-2, 3), an ecotone zone (Skr-4), three restoration dry evergreen forest (Skr-5, 6, 7) and an undisturbed dry evergreen forest (Skr-8). All soils located at upper part of middle footslope to upper part of lower footslope which were derived from colluvium over residuum of sandstone. Results revealed that soils under different forest covers are moderately shallow to very deep, which the one under dry dipterocarp forest (Skr-3) is the shallowest. Their texture ranges from sandy loam...

Characteristics of soils along footslope of limestone mountain were studied in farmer field used for growing sugarcane in Wangdong subdistrict, Muang district, Kanchanaburi province. There were eight locations selected, comprising lower footslope (ND-1), upper lower footslope (ND-2), lower middle footslope (ND-3), middle footslope (ND-4),upper middle footslope (ND-5), erosional lower upper footslope (ND-6), lower upper footslope (ND-7), and upper footslope (ND-8). This study aimed at investigating the relationship of soil characteristics and their position on footslope. Soil morphological, physical and chemical properties were examined and analyzed based on standard methods. All soils studied were classified as Aquic Haplustalf (ND-6), Inceptic Haplustalf...

Growth-Yield Relationship of Grapevine Cultivars on Soils with Hardened Layers, Alto Valle of the Rio Negro, Southern Wine-Growing Region of Argentina Agricultura Técnica
Echenique,María del C; Apcarian,Alicia; Reeb,Pablo; Aruani,María C.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the vegetative-productive balance of Vitis vinifera L., cvs. Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon on Aridisols with hardened layers in the Alto Valle of Rio Negro, Argentina. The study was carried out in 15.5 ha of vineyards during 2002-2003 on five soil groups characterized by: type, thickness and depth of the horizons, texture and resistance to penetration. In each sampling site three plants were evaluated. Production, leaf area, pruning material, trunk diameter, the Ravaz Index, the leaf area/yield ratio and the leaf area index were determined. A variance analysis and means comparison were made. The production level, the leaf area and the pruning material of the three cultivars were reduced (P < 0.05) when the...
