The study aimed to evaluate the hydraulic conductivity using soil samples with undisturbed structure in the soil layers of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20, and 20-40 cm; 120 soil samples were collected. For the determination of hydraulic conductivity, the constant load permeameter was used. For geostatistical analysis, exploratory data analysis was performed using frequency histograms, determining the main measures of position and dispersion, verifying the trends for the construction of boxplot graphics, which allows the identification of discrepant points. The lowest and highest hydraulic conductivity values were found in the 20-40 cm and 0-5 cm soil layers, respectively; values commonly found in soils under forest conditions. Based on the results, we conclude when the... |

Quantifying soil evaporation is required on studies of soil water balance and applications aiming to improve water use efficiency by crops. The performance of a microlysimeter (ML) to measure soil evaporation under irrigation and non-irrigation was evaluated. The MLs were constructed using PVC tubes, with dimensions of 100 mm inner diameter, 150 mm depth and 2.5 mm wall thickness. Four MLs were uniformly distributed on the soil surface of two weighing lysimeters conducted under bare soil, previously installed at Iapar, in Londrina, PR, Brazil. The lysimeters had 1.4 m width, 1.9 m length and 1.3 m depth and were conducted with and without irrigation. Evaporation measurements by MLs (E ML) were compared with measurements by lysimeters (E L) during four... |

ABSTRACT Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivation has a high demand for management and treatments during the vegetative cycle in the field. Among these requirements, water management is a limiting factor of tuber productivity and quality. This study aimed to determine the most appropriate soil water depletion depth for irrigation management in potato crops of Ágata cultivar, under the edaphoclimatic conditions of Guarapuava-PR, considering its influence on crop vegetative development. The study was conducted using four water depletion depths in the soil (12, 24, 36, and 48 mm). The different irrigation treatments promoted differences in shoot dry mass, leaf area index (LAI), number of tubers per plant, and productivity. The highest yield was observed for... |

ABSTRACT The quality of cherry tomato fruits is directly related to the management strategies used in the production system, such as irrigation and fertilization. This study aimed to assess the quality of cherry tomato fruits cultivated under water availability and potassium fertilization. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in pots of 12 dm3 of an Oxisol. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a 52 fractional factorial arrangement with five water availabilities in the soil (4, 14, 24, 34, and 44 -kPa), five potassium doses (0, 125, 250, 375, and 500 mg dm−3) and with four blocks. Irrigation was performed with a semi-automated drip irrigation system with soil moisture monitoring by the Diviner 2000® capacitance probe. The... |

Study for find out the short-term dynamics of applied fertilizer. In a soil pit a data logger system connected to tensiometers and TDR was installed up to a depth of 3.5m under pueraria in an agroforestry system (cupuacu, peach palm, Brazil nut, urucum). After a rainfall event, the soil water suction at 0.1m depth increased immediately, and fast responses were seen even up to a depth of 0.9m. This result may indicate that nutrients may be leached very fast even in these soil with high clay contents. The N concentrations in the soil solution relevantly increased at 0.1m depth during the same time period, as shown for peach palm. First, the ammonium concentrations increased, but nitrate contents followed rapidly indicanting a fast nitrification in the... |
