Somatic embryogenesis in Citrus sinensis, C. reticulata AND C. nobilis x C. deliciosa Scientia Agricola
Ricci,Adriana Patrícia; Mourão Filho,Francisco de Assis Alves; Mendes,Beatriz Madalena Januzzi; Piedade,Sonia Maria de Stefano.
Most of the plant regeneration processes in citrus, through tissue culture, involve indirect somatic embryogenesis. The optimization of these processes is important for the development of in vitro plant improvement and micropropagation studies. Studies to evaluate the effect of different carbohydrates in somatic embryogenesis were conducted using calli from 'Ponkan' mandarin (Citrus reticulata, Blanco), 'Cravo' mandarin (C. reticulata), 'Itaboraí' sweet orange (C. sinensis L. Osbeck.), 'Valencia' sweet orange (C. sinensis) and 'Kinnow' mandarin (C. nobilis Loureiro x C. deliciosa Tenore). The culture medium used was MT supplemented with sucrose, galactose, glucose, maltose or lactose with the following concentrations of 18, 37, 75, 110, and 150 mM. The...

Somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in Wedelia calendulacea Less. an endangered medicinal plant BABT
Sharmin,Shamima Akhtar; Alam,Md. Jahangir; Sheikh,Md. Mominul Islam; Sarker,Kanak Kanti; Khalekuzzaman,Muhammad; Haque,Md. Anwarul; Alam,Mohammad Firoz; Alam,Iftekhar.
In this work, plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis was achieved from leaf and internode derived callus of Wedelia calendulacea, an endangered medicinal plant. Primary callus was induced by culturing leaf disc and internode explant on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 2.0 mg L-1 of 2,4-D under light condition. Transfer of embryogenic callus on a reduced concentration of 2,4-D facilitated somatic embryo development while calluses remained unorganized at the same 2,4-D level. A histological analysis confirmed somatic embryo by revealing the presence of a closed vascular system in the developing embryos and lack of a vascularconnection with surrounding callus tissues. Somatic embryos germinated into plantlets upon transfer on MS medium...

Somatic embryogenesis from immature cotyledons of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.): ontogeny of somatic embryos BABT
Santos,Karla Galvão Bezerra dos; Mariath,Jorge Ernesto de Araújo; Moço,Maria Cecília C.; Bodanese-Zanettini,Maria Helena.
Soybean somatic embryos obtained from immature zygotic embryos were histologically analyzed in order to determine possible ontogenetic routes followed by these embryos. The proembryo stage and globular, heart-shaped, torpedo and cotyledonary embryo stages were found, closely resembling the ontogeny of zygotic embryos. However, the absence of a characteristic suspensor as well as the delay in the establishment of inner organization were the main differences between these two embryogenic processes.
