Microencapsulation of pequi pulp by spray drying: use of modified starches as encapsulating agent REA
Santana,Audirene A.; Oliveira,Rafael A. de; Kurozawa,Louise E.; Park,Kil J..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the microencapsulation of pequi pulp by spray drying. A central composite rotational design was used in order to evaluate the effect of the independent variables: inlet air temperature, surfactant concentration and modified starch concentration. The dependent variables were assumed as yield of the process and the product features microencapsulated. A selection of the best process condition was performed to obtain the best condition of a product with the highest vitamin C and carotenoids content. Powders showed moisture content below 2%. The experimental values of hygroscopicity, yield, water activity, total carotenoids and vitamin C powders ranged from 7.96 to 10.67 g of adsorbed water/100g of solids, 24.34 to 49.80%,...

Obtention of dry extract from aqueous extracts of Justicia pectoralis Jacq. (tilo) Plantas Medicinales
Rodríguez Chanfrau,Jorge Enrique; López Hernández,Orestes Dario; Núñez Figueredo,Yanier; Rodríguez Ferrada,Carlos; Nogueira Mendoza,Antonio.
Introduction: Justicia pectoralis Jacq. (Acanthaceae), is a medicinal species native to the American tropics. In Cuba it is used in folk medicine in the treatment of nervous disorders. The Cuban Pharmaceutical Industry is working on the development of technological processes for the obtention of pharmaceutical quality raw materials from natural products. Objectives: develop a technological process to obtain dry extract from aqueous extracts of J. pectoralis. Methods: a process to obtain dry extract by spray drying from aqueous extract of J. pectoralis was developed. The influence of solid-liquid r ratio and extraction time on coumarin content was evaluated by applying a response surface methodology (RSM). The drying process and later pharmacological...

Microencapsulation of a Colombian Spodoptera frugiperdaNucleopolyhedrovirus with Eudragit® S100 by spray drying BABT
Camacho Kurmen,Judith Elena; Gómez Alvarez,Martha Isabel; Villamizar Rivero,Laura Fernanda.
A Colombian Spodoptera frugiperda nucleopolyhedrovirus NPV003 with high potential for the development of an efficient biopesticide was microencapsulated by spray drying with a pH dependent polymer (Eudragit® S100). Conditions for microparticles production were standardized and microencapsulation process was validated. Physical properties, insecticide activity and photo-stability of microencapsulated virus were determined. The microparticles were spherical and irregular shaped, with sizes between 17.64 and 19.47 µm. Moisture content was 10.38 ± 0.87%; encapsulation efficiency 84.61± 13.09% and process yield was 91.20 ± 6.40%. Microencapsulation process did not affect viral insecticidal activity and provided efficient protection against UVB radiation....

Encapsulation of Red Cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var.capitata L. f. rubra) Anthocyanins by Spray Drying using Different Encapsulating Agents BABT
Bernstein,Anahi; Noreña,Caciano Pelayo Zapata.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the drying air temperature (140 and 160°C) and the concentration of encapsulating agents gum Arabic and polydextrose (10 and 15%) on the physicochemical characteristics of the red cabbage extract obtained through extraction in acidulated water and drying using a spray dryer. The anthocyanin retention, antioxidant activity, water activity, solubility, color and microstructure of the final product were analyzed. Results showed that increase in the temperature did not cause significant changes in the anthocyanin quantity and antioxidant activity. The microscopic analysis revealed that for both the encapsulating agents, the absence of fissures and porosity in the particle surfaces produced powder with high...

MICROENCAPSULATION OF TURMERIC OLEORESIN IN BINARY AND TERNARY BLENDS OF GUM ARABIC, MALTODEXTRIN AND MODIFIED STARCH Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Cano-Higuita,Diana Maria; Vélez,Harvey Alexander Villa; Telis,Vania Regina Nicoletti.
Spray-drying is a suitable method to obtain microencapsulated active substances in the powdered form, resulting in powders with improved protection against environmental factors as well as with higher solubility in water, as in the case of turmeric oleoresin. The present study investigated the spray-drying process of turmeric oleoresin microencapsulated with binary and ternary mixtures of different wall materials: gum Arabic, maltodextrin, and modified corn starch. A statistical simplex centroid experimental design was used considering the encapsulation efficiency, curcumin retention, process yield, water content, solubility, and particle morphology as the analyzed responses. Wall matrices containing higher proportions of modified starch and gum Arabic...
