Postharvest quality of peaches harvested from integrated and conventional production systems PAB
Seibert,Eduardo; Casali,Michel Elias; Leão,Marcos Laux de; Pezzi,Ernani; Corrent,Adriana Regina; Bender,Renar João.
Over three years the postharvest quality of 'Marli' peaches harvested from the integrated (IFP) and conventional production (CFP) systems was evaluated. The peaches were harvested from commercial orchards of Prunus persica at two locations close to the city of São Jerônimo, RS, Brazil, and stored at 0.5°C for 10, 20 or 30 days. The peaches were evaluated at harvest, at retrieval from storage and after ripening periods at 20°C. No differences in fruit weight losses were determined. Decay incidence was low, and no differences were detected amongst systems in both 2001 and 2002 seasons, but in the 2000 season CFP peaches were more decayed. Flesh firmness of peaches from the IFP system were greater than CFP fruits in the years 2000 and 2001. In 2002, firmness...

Time of metamitron application and concentration in the chemical thinning of ‘Maciel’ peach Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Farias,Roseli de Mello; Martins,Carlos Roberto; Barreto,Caroline Farias; Giovanaz,Marcos Antônio; Malgarim,Marcelo Barbosa; Mello-Farias,Paulo.
Abstract In the peach tree cultivation, the producer has the challenge of obtaining good quality fruits and maintaining production in a balanced way over the years. Thinning favors these parameters and reduces the fruit load on plants. Manual thinning commonly practiced on peach trees requires high labor and increases production costs. Chemical thinning as an alternative to manual thinning, which depending on the species, time and concentration, has demonstrated high efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of metamitron applied at different seasons and concentrations on the chemical thinning of peach trees in southern Brazil. Experiments were conducted in a commercial peach orchard (‘Maciel’ cultivar), in the municipality of Morro...

Flowering period and fruit quality of peach trees selections and cultivars in the metropolitan region of Curitiba Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Alves,Giselda; Gelain,Jhulia; Vidal,Gloria Soriano; Nesi,Cristiano Nunes; Mio,Louise Larissa May De; Biasi,Luiz Antonio.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the flowering period and the physicochemical characteristics of peaches, aiming to find those most promising for the diversification of the peach crop in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, Paraná State. We evaluated 8 selections and three cultivars in Porto Amazonas and 10 cultivars in Araucaria for flowering period, fruit set, diameter and height of fruit, average fruit weight, the skin color, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), ratio SS/ TA, hydrogen potential (pH). The flowering period occurred between late June and late September ranging from 16 to 25 days. The fruit set rate was greater than 50% for ‘Cascata 1513’, ‘Cascata 1429’, ‘Cascata 1577’, ‘Cascata 1743’ and for all cultivars in Araucaria....

Phenology and reproductive traits of peaches and nectarines in Central-East Argentina Scientia Agricola
Gariglio,Norberto Francisco; Mendow,Marisa; Weber,Marcela Emilce; Favaro,María Alejandra; González-Rossia,Diego Esteban; Pilatti,Rubén Andrés.
In Santa Fe, the central-east area of Argentina, the expansion of fruit tree crops requires the introduction and evaluation of low chilling varieties. The aims of this study was to characterize the phenological behaviour and the reproductive traits of peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) and nectarine varieties with chilling requirements ranging from 150 to 650 chilling hours (CH). Low chilling varieties (< 450 CH) had higher flower density (22.0-56.5 flowers m-1), fruit set (26.0-56.7%), fruit yield (9.3-36.6 kg per plant), and low coefficient of fruit yield variability than varieties with a higher chilling requirement (>500 CH). The phenology of high chilling requirement varieties had the advantage that blooming and fruit set happened after the period...
