The adoption of no-tillage systems (NT) and the maintenance of crop residues on the soil surface result in the long-term increase of carbon (C) in the system, promoting C sequestration and reducing C-CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the C sequestration rate and the minimum amount of crop residues required to maintain the dynamic C equilibrium (dC/dt = 0) of two soils (Typic Hapludox) with different textural classes. The experiment was arranged in a 2 x 2 x 2 randomized block factorial design. The following factors were analyzed: (a) two soil types: Typic Hapludox (Oxisol) with medium texture (LVTM) and Oxisol with clay texture (LVTA), (b) two sampling layers (0-5 and 5-20 cm), and (c) two sampling periods (P1 -... |

ABSTRACT Phosphorus (P) reacts with chemical and mineralogical constituents in the soil, mainly in tropical and subtropical soils. Therefore, strategies have been used to reduce the adsorption of P to the soil, among them, the formation of complexes that could decrease P adsorption to the soil. Two experiments were carried out to evaluate the formation of organic acid-Fe-P complexes in the laboratory and the efficiency of these complexes on the growth of wheat plants (T. aestivum) grown under greenhouse conditions. In experiment 1, seven low-molecular-weight organic acids (OA) were selected and a protocol for the formation of complexes between organic acid and Fe3+ at pH 4.0 was performed. After stirring, P was added to the organic acid-Fe complex to form... |

Morphological, particularly textural, discontinuities between horizons increase soil erodibility in Depressão Central, Rio Grande do Sul State (Brazil). Characterization of such discontinuities would help to understand landscape evolution and to model near-surface hydrology. The objective of this research was to explore the relationship between morphological discontinuity and deposition of transported materials during pedogenesis. Transported material was meant to be mineral particles found in the soil profile, transported probably by water or gravity, that were not present neither in the parent material nor derived from it. Five soils of this region (two Alfisols, two Ultisols and one Mollisol) were sampled and morphological, sand grain size statistics,... |
