Leaf area estimatites of custard apple tree progenies Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Paulo Sérgio Lima e; Barbin,Decio; Gonçalves,Ranoel José de Sousa; Firmino,João Domingos da Cruz; Fonseca,Idaiane Costa.
Leaf area measurements are required in several agronomical studies. Usually, there is an interest for measurement methods that are simple, quick and that will not destroy the leaf. The objectives of this work were to evaluate leaf area (y), length (l) and width (w) of 20 half-sibling progenies of custard apple tree (Annona squamosa L.), and to fit regression equations of the type y = a + bx, where x = l.w, that will allow y to be estimated based on l and w. The experiment was conducted as random blocks with five replicates and four plants per plot. Five mature leaves were randomly collected from each plant. Leaf area was measured with an automatic measuring device and leaf dimensions were determined with a ruler. All values of b were different from zero....

A produção de anonáceas no Brasil Rev. Bras. Frutic.

Only one or two family members could work in the orchard. The labors were family member and employee. The average of growing area was 23 rai. The land characteristics was plateau and plain with sandy loam soil and tropical climate weather. The fruit trees were grown by seedling and grafting respectively. Soil preparation was done two time to break up the soil before...

Annona squamosa, a new host of Ceratocystis fimbriata Trop. Plant Pathol.
Silveira,Silvaldo F.; Harrington,Thomas C.; Mussi-Dias,Vicente; Engelbrecht,Christine J. B.; Alfenas,Acelino C.; Silva,Carolina R..
Mango branch blight disease, caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata, is endemic to the municipality of São Fidelis in northern Rio de Janeiro State. In addition to mango, C. fimbriata was found associated with sugar apple trees (Annona squamosa) showing symptoms of branch blight in São Fidelis. Sugar apple and mango isolates from the same region had the same morphology and showed similar ITS-rDNA sequences. These sequences were also similar to other Brazilian isolates of C. fimbriata sensu stricto. Cross inoculation of such isolates obtained from diseased sugar apple and mango resulted in diseased symptoms on both plant species. This is the first record of A. squamosa as a host for C. fimbriata.
