Brazil is amongst the world’s largest swine producers. However, its competitiveness has been vulnerable due to a lack of cooperation between the supply chain players. This condition makes the financial losses to be evaluated taking into account only an individual node, and most of the time, these damages are imputed by swine breeders. Living weight losses occur between the farm to slaughterhouses, and the main cause of these losses is the pre-slaughter handling, especially during animal transportation. In this research, we analyzed the pre-slaughter handling in a swine farm in Brasilândia, MS, Brazil. Analyzed data were provided by five slaughterhouses (farm clients) from the studied region, in which it was considered living weight losses, carcass... |

The food sector is confronted with a growing number of public and private requirements, which call for provision of information about the quality and sustainability of food, such as, e.g., its origin, safety and production conditions. This forces enterprises to innovate towards demand driven and knowledge-based production of food. As a consequence, intra- and inter-enterprise production and information processes have to be integrated and suitable information systems need to be developed to provide information for related decision processes. The present paper introduces a generalized modelling framework for model-based decision support systems (DSS) involving production and information processes across whole supply networks. The different phases of a... |

On the basis the elementary theory of supply chain management, the features and problems in the supply-chain management of flowers in Yunnan Province are analyzed. The problems include poor image of flowers caused by low-end package, imperfect supply-chain structure, and weak processing section after harvesting flowers, hard to launch the cold chain transportation and inadequate awareness of enterprises on consumers. The countermeasures are put forward, which include perfecting various kinds of supply chain structure; intensifying the information system management of flowers in Yunnan Province; developing the cold chain logistics and cultivating and supporting the third-party logistics of flower industry in Yunnan Province. |

Based on the connotation of marine fisheries logistics, the thesis give a brief account of its features: firstly, it is more susceptible to natural conditions; secondly, the aquatic logistics is with strong specialized assets; thirdly, the aquatic products market has relative greater uncertainties; fourthly, it calls for higher logistics technology; fifthly, it is difficult to conduct supply chain management. Then the thesis analyzes the problems in the marine fisheries industry: the first problem is the imperfect standardization system of the aquatic logistics; the second is the backward development in the cold storage of the marine fisheries; the third is low information-based degree of marine fisheries logistics system; the fourth one is the low level... |

Supply chain management has emerged as cross functional, cross company concept to improve coordination of entire value chains through coordinated actions of all companies in the value chain. It has received a major push from the availability of Internet-based information and communication technologies. The conditions in certain sectors are favorable for a realization of chain wide supply chain management. In other sectors, however, conditions are more complex and companies and value chains still struggle to exploit the potentials from supply chain management, in particular when it comes to cross enterprise coordination. This paper takes a complex supply network as example and discusses improvement potentials from supply chain management and developments in... |

The purpose of this paper is to explore the issues that may affect the integration (i.e., the relationships) between the different actors that comprise a supply chain. Whist the theoretical part of the paper can be referred to any supply chain, the empirical part is focused on the UK barley to beer supply chain. The main motivation behind the topic is that improvements in the relationships amongst the different segments of a chain can enhance its efficiency and effectiveness, (e.g., through improvements in coordination and cooperation), and therefore, its competitiveness and long term sustainability. The paper is based on two complementary analyses: the first one consisted of a structural equation model (SEM) to determine those factors that affect the... |

Motivation: While it appears the modern economy demands ever increasing amounts of differentiation, opportunities for grain producers to create and capture significant new sources of value remains elusive. Opportunities appear to loom large to help remove risk and improve quality in the grain supply chain through preservation of product identity, producers, producer groups, and cooperatives are frustrated at the low level of value available to them from IP demand. Why do premiums remain low? And, what is the role of group action in these new differentiated markets? Objectives: This research report helps to explain this apparent paradox underlying the economics of the value proposition for IP grains. Methodology: Needs assessments were conducted on... |
