Among diseases reported worldwidely for sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam) crop, one of the most frequent is the Sweet potato virus disease (SPVD), caused by sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV) and sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV) co-infection. In Argentina, there exists the sweet potato chlorotic dwarf (SPCD), a sweet potato disease caused by triple co-infection with SPCSV, SPFMV and sweet potato mild speckling virus (SPMSV). Both diseases cause a synergism between the potyviruses (SPFMV and SPMSV) and the crinivirus (SPCSV). Up to date, studies carried out on the interaction among these three viruses have not described their localization in the infected tissues. In single infections, virions of the crinivirus genus are limited to the... |

Abstract Date syrup (DS), sugars (SG) and sweet potato starch (SPS) composites were investigated using dynamic rheometry, rapid visco-amylograph (RVA), and texture analysis (TPA). HPLC analysis revealed that DS sugar composition was 55% glucose and 45% fructose. Starch gels (0% to 50% DS or SG) were precooked in RVA. SPS starch gel is considered elastic because the elastic modulus (G`) was much greater than the viscous modulus (G``). The comparison between the effect of DS versus SG revealed differences on the peak viscosity, setback, G` and G``, complex viscosity (η*), tan δ, and gel hardness. The decline in complex viscosity (η*) indicates shear thinning behavior. Despite the similarity in sugar content between DS and SG, as shown by the HPLC analysis,... |

ABSTRACT Nowadays, it is very important for researchers to find alternatives that enable the development of a profitable agriculture and a clean environment, therefore, the strategy evaluated in the present study is geared towards the use of the allelopathic effect of many plants. The main objective was to assess the efficiency of a compound derived from extracts of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas on three weed species under controlled conditions. Different concentrations (1, 5, 10% w/v) were evaluated through a sandwich-type microbioassay in comparison with the traditional Petri dished culture technique. Both tests demonstrated the phytotoxic activity of aqueous extracts of I. batatas, which caused inhibition of germination of A. hybridus, P. oleracea and... |

Damaging observation in term of preference of sweet potato weevil (Cylas formicarius F.) on 219 varieties of sweet potato was conducted at Pijit Agricultural Research and Development Center, Pijit province, as well as laboratory preference test using no choice method, the relationship among infestation level, sweet potato color, %dried weight latex, %dried weight tube and containing of phenolic compound were also conducted. The result showed that, the sweet potato weevil infested various colors of sweet potatoes with non-statistically significant differences at 95%. Out of 14 varieties were infested with low level, less than 37.5%, such as Edok, Triyoke, Pakan-2, Khai Trad, Khai Nakorn-2, Kanlasin, Lheungbanlung, Khai Chaingmai, Banyang, Banyang-9, S0183,... |
