Synergy between cadmium and zinc in bean plants cultivated in multi contaminated soils Agronomy
Almeida, Lorena Gabriela; Silva, Dayane Meireles da; Jorge, Adelcio de Paula; Souza, Kamila Rezende Dázio de; Guilherme, Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Alves, José Donizeti.
Agricultural species are subjected to a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses, which are the main limitations to crop production. In this context, contamination by trace elements is characterized as an abiotic stress that represents an environmental problem. Due to the physical and chemical similarities between cadmium and zinc, these elements may interact in the environment and may cause antagonistic or synergistic effects. In this way, physiological mechanisms to exclude, detoxify or compartmentalize trace elements that are in excess are crucial for plant survival when exposed to high concentrations of these elements. In this way, the aim of this study was to understand the physiological responses of Phaseolus vulgaris plants subjected to increasing...

Interaction study between vancomycin and liposomes containing natural compounds against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates BJPS
Cavalcanti,Isabella Macário Ferro; Menezes,Talita Gomes Calaça; Campos,Luís André de Almeida; Ferraz,Milena Sales; Maciel,Maria Amélia Vieira; Caetano,Maria Nelly Psiotano; Santos-Magalhães,Nereide Stela.
ABSTRACT The treatment of infections caused by resistant microorganisms is limited, and vancomycin (VAN) treatment failures for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia are not uncommon, even when MRSA clinical isolates are susceptible to VAN. Thus, this study proposed the association of VAN with usnic acid and β-lapachone encapsulated into liposomes as a novel therapeutic option for infections caused by MRSA. Liposomes containing β-lap (β-lap-lipo) or usnic acid (UA-lipo) were prepared by the thin lipid film hydration method followed by sonication. Antimicrobial activity against MRSA clinical isolates was investigated by the microdilution method according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). The interaction...

Ocimum basilicum essential oil combined with deltamethrin to improve the management of Spodoptera frugiperda Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Sérgio Macedo; Cunha,João Paulo Arantes Rodrigues da; Carvalho,Stephan Malfitano de; Zandonadi,César Henrique Souza; Martins,Rafael Castro; Chang,Roberto.
ABSTRACT For an important and expensive crop such as corn, the resistance of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith to various pesticides has led to research throughout the world for a potential insecticide from a natural source. For the management of pest resistance, natural compounds associated with synthetic insecticides can be a promising tool because they can reduce the application of the synthetics molecules while maintaining their effectiveness and promoting the control of the pests. Linalool is a potential insecticide that is easily obtained because it is found in high concentrations in the essential oil of Ocimum basilicum L. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the toxicity of this essential oil and its combination with deltamethrin to...

Monoammonium phosphate coated with polymers and magnesium for coffee plants Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Guelfi,Douglas Ramos; Chagas,Wantuir Filipe Teixeira; Lacerda,Jordana Reis; Chagas,Rafael Mattioli Rezende; Souza,Taylor Lima de; Andrade,André Baldansi.
ABSTRACT The coating of phosphate fertilizer granules with polymers and magnesium (Mg) is a technology that can improve phosphorus (P) use efficiency and mitigate problems of low Mg supply in coffee crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and nutrition characteristics of coffee seedlings and the agronomic efficiency (AE) of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) coated with anionic polymers and Mg in comparison with other phosphate fertilizer technologies. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in 20 L pots. Two five-month-old coffee seedlings were transplanted into each pot. The experimental design was completely randomized with three replicates. The following treatments, applied at a dose corresponding to 20 g pot-1 of P2O5, were...
