Biodegradation of blend films PVA/PVC, PVA/PCL in soil and soil with landfill leachate BABT
Campos,Adriana de; Marconato,José Carlos; Martins-Franchetti,Sandra Mara.
This study investigated the biodegradation of blends films of poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(vinyl chloride) (PVA/PVC) and poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(caprolactone) (PVA/PCL) blends films prepared with dimethylformamide under a variety of conditions by respirometry, spectrophotometry (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and contact angle. The films were buried in the garden soil and in the soil mixed with the landfill leachate for 120 days at 28ºC. Significant levels of biodegradation were achieved in fairly short incubation times in the soil. The results indicated that PVA was the most biodegradable film in the soil and in the soil with the leachate.

The adherence of Pseudomonas fluorescens to marble, granite, synthetic polymers, and stainless steel Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
Careli,Roberta Torres; Andrade,Nelio José; Soares,Nilda Fatima; Ribeiro Júnior,José Ivo; Rosado,Marcilía Santos; Bernardes,Patrícia Campos.
The adherence of Pseudomonas fluorescens cells to nine food-processing contact surfaces was evaluated using the plate-count method. The surfaces include marble, granite, stainless steel, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, and silicone-coated cloth, which have been used only in a few studies concerning bacterial adherence. The number of cells adhered to the surfaces increased with contact time reaching 5.0-6.1 log CDM.cm-2 after 10 hours, which can be considered a well established adherence process. The number of adhered cells doubled in 29.5 minutes and 23.5 minutes on stainless steel and thin polyvinyl chloride-coated cloth, respectively. For the other surfaces, this value was 9.8 minutes on average. Marble, granite, thick polyvinyl-coated cloth,...
