KINETIC AND THERMODYNAMIC BEHAVIORS OF SOIL UREASE AS AFFECTED BY UREASE INHIBITORS R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Juan,Y.H; Chen,Z.H; Chen,L.J; Wu,Z.J; Wang,R; Sun,W.T; Zhang,Y.L.
The kinetic characteristics of soil urease have attracted great attention, but little information was available on its kinetic and thermodynamic behaviors as affected by urease inhibitors and temperature. With black soil (Pachic Udic Mollisol) in Heilongjiang Province of Northeast China as a test soil, an incubation test was conducted to investigate the effect of urease inhibitors (hydroquinone, HQ; phenyl phosphorodiamidate, PPD; N-(n-Butyl) thiophosphoric triamide, NBPT) on kinetic and thermodynamic behaviors of soil urease at 10°C, 20°C and 30°C. The results showed that all tested inhibitors increased Km and decreased Vmax, behaving as mixed inhibitors to soil urease. With increasing temperature, the Km and Vmax values increased significantly. With...

Effect of storage in overcoming seed dormancy ofAnnona coriacea Mart. seeds Anais da ABC (AABC)
DRESCH,DAIANE M.; SCALON,SILVANA P.Q.; MASETTO,TATHIANA E..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pre-treatments on overcoming dormancy of A. coriacea seeds. Seeds were processed and stored in polyethylene bags at temperatures of at -18°C (42% RH), 5°C (34% RH), 15°C (60% RH) and 25°C (34% RH), during 0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days. After storage, seeds were immersed in 350 mg.L−1 gibberellic acid for 144 hours. Sowing was carried out in plastic bags containing Red Latosol + Bioplant®. Moisture content, emergence percentage, emergence speed index, length and dry mass of seedlings, were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial with four replications of 50 seeds each. The seed storage at 5°C and subsequent immersion in gibberellic acid was efficient to reach high...

Spore germination of Gleichenella pectinata (Willd.) Ching (Polypodiopsida-Gleicheniaceae) at different temperatures, levels of light and pH BABT
Santos,Eunice Pereira Gonçalves dos; Lehmann,Débora Rosana Marques; Santos,Marisa; Randi,Áurea Maria.
This study investigated the effects of different temperatures (25 and 30 ± 2 ºC), light levels (62, 42, 22 and 5% of natural light), and pH (4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.7) on the spore germination of Gleichenella pectinata. To accomplish this, the spores were surface sterilized and sown in bottles containing mineral medium. The spores of G. pectinata are monolets and the perispore surface can show large and irregular deposits. During germination, filamentous gametophytes with and without developing rhizoids were observed. Only gametophytes which presented developed rhizoids were able to reach the heart-shaped developmental stage. Based on the collection, the rate of and gametophyte development were generally very low. The relative germination rates were...

Temperature-dependent alterations in metabolic enzymes and proteins of three ecophysiologically different species of earthworms BABT
Tripathi,G; Kachhwaha,N.; Dabi,I.; Bandooni,N..
The effects of varying temperatures (12 - 44° C) on the specific activity of cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase ((cMDH), mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase (mMDH) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) of some earthworms (Metaphire posthuma, Perionyx sansibaricus and Lampito mauritii) were studied. The effects of different temperatures on supernatant and mitochondrial protein contents were also investigated. The specific activities of cMDH, mMDH and LDH of the earthworms decreased gradually as a function of increasing temperature from 12 to 44°C. Higher metabolic energy was needed to maintain the activity at low temperatures. Hence, the earthworms showed increased enzyme specific activity at low temperatures. However, the protein content increased upto 28°C....

Biofilm formation on polystyrene under different temperatures by antibiotic resistant Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium isolated from food BJM
Marinho,A.R.; Martins,P.D.; Ditmer,E.M.; d'Azevedo,P.A.; Frazzon,J.; Sand,S.T.Van Der; Frazzon,A.P.G..
The ability of antibiotic resistant E. faecalis and E. faecium isolated from food to form biofilm at different temperatures in the absence or presence of 0.75% glucose was evaluated. A synergistic effect on biofilm at 10 °C, 28 °C, 37 °C and 45 °C and glucose was observed for E. faecalis and E. faecium.
