Establishment of Xaraés and Marandu grasses under levels of soil compaction REA
Bonfim-Silva,Edna M.; Valadão Júnior,Daniel D.; Reis,Rafael H. P. dos; Campos,Jader J.; Scaramuzza,Walcylene L. M. P..
In Cerrado soils under grazing, changes occur in physical attributes, such as increased density, decreasing on the size of water stable aggregates, and macroporosity reduction. Thus, the aim of this study was to study the effect of compaction on the establishment of two forages. It was adopted a completely randomized design with three replications, in 2 x 4 factorial design, and two forages (Xaraés grass and Marandu grass), and four levels of compaction (soil densities of 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6 Mg m-3). The following variables were evaluated 48 days after sowing: tiller population, plant height, dry matter production of shoots and components, leaf and stem, as well as the root dry mass. The stem dry mass decreased with soil density in a similar manner for...

The PIN1 family gene PvPIN1 is involved in auxin-dependent root emergence and tillering in switchgrass Genet. Mol. Biol.
Xu,Kaijie; Sun,Fengli; Wang,Yongfeng; Shi,Lili; Liu,Shudong; Xi,Yajun.
Abstract Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.; family Poaceae) is a warm-season C4 perennial grass. Tillering plays an important role in determining the morphology of aboveground parts and the final biomass yield of switchgrass. Auxin distribution in plants can affect a variety of important growth and developmental processes, including the regulation of shoot and root branching, plant resistance and biological yield. Auxin transport and gradients in plants are mediated by influx and efflux carriers. PvPIN1, a switchgrass PIN1-like gene that is involved in regulating polar transport, is a putative auxin efflux carrier. Neighbor-joining analysis using sequences deposited in NCBI databases showed that the PvPIN1gene belongs to the PIN1 family and is...

Attributes of irrigated rice and soil solution as affected by salinity levels of the water layer Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Fraga,Thiago Isquierdo; Carmona,Felipe de Campos; Anghinoni,Ibanor; Marcolin,Elio.
In the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, flooded rice fields using Patos Lagoon as the source of water for irrigation are subject to be damaged by salinity, since this source is bound to the sea on its southern end. The sensitivity of rice is variable during plant development, being higher in the seedling and reproductive periods. However, there is not enough information about the behavior of plants under salt stress during the course of its development, especially in the vegetative stage. This study evaluated the effect of different levels of salinity of irrigation water on the salinity of soil solution over time and on some plant attributes, during the vegetative stage of rice. The study was conducted in a greenhouse, where seeds of the variety IRGA...

Tiller emission and dry mass accumulation of wheat cultivars under stress Scientia Agricola
Almeida,Milton Luiz de; Sangoi,Luís; Merotto Jr.,Aldo; Alves,Antônio Carlos; Nava,Itamar Cristiano; Knopp,Armando Cristiano.
Tillers are important structures for wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) because they contribute to increase the number of spikes per area, enhancing grain yield. Stresses during plants early growth have a sizable effect on tiller production. Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of stresses induced by unevenness in sowing depth, defoliation and differences in soil pH on tiller emission and dry mass accumulation of wheat cultivars. The experiments were carried out in Lages, Southern Brazil, during the winter growing seasons of 2000 and 2001. They were performed in square boxes, under natural conditions of radiation and irrigation. In the first experiment, five types of sowing depths were tested to simulate different systems of unevenness in...

Objective of the present study was to investigate influence of transplanting methods, namely, parachute” and wet seeded culture, on growth, i.e., height and tiller number/bunch, incidence of disease outbreak, soil quality and yield of “Hommali 105” rice cultivated organically. Results showed that the transplanting methods played insignificant role on growth as well as the incidence of disease outbreak (p0.05). However, the “parachute” transplanting method led to higher tiller numbers/bunch and rice yield than that obtained with the wet seeded method, 27 against 5 tillers/bunch (p<0.05) and 1.7 folds, respectively. Further, during cultivation, soil qualities in terms of pH and content of organic matter, nitrogen and potassium appeared to be comparable...

Dynamics and stability of Marandu grass tillers in monocrop systems and babassu palm silvopastoral systems Agronomy
Araújo, Ricardo Alves de; Rodrigues, Rosane Cláudia; Costa, Clésio Santos; Santos, Francisco Naysson Sousa; Lima, Antonio José Temístocles; Rodrigues, Marcônio Martins.
This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics, population density of tillers and stability index of Urochloa brizantha in silvopastoral systems composed of babassu palm trees in the Pre-Amazon region. Four systems consisting of different densities of palm trees (80, 131, and 160 palms ha-1) and a monocrop were evaluated. The rates at which the basal tillers appeared in systems with 131 and 160 palms ha-1 were similar to each other and were slower compared to the monocrop pasture and the system with 80 palms ha-1. Despite the variations, the stability index was always higher than 1.0, which infers a compensatory mechanism between tiller appearance and mortality rate, since monocrop pastures and systems with 80 palms ha-1 have a higher rate of tissue...

Role of nonproductive tillers as transient sinks of assimilates in wheat Bragantia
Fioreze,Samuel Luiz; Michelon,Luiz Henrique; Turek,Thaís Lemos; Drun,Robson Pelissari; Dalorsaleta,Julio César Sbardella.
ABSTRACT Although source–sink relationships in wheat are well studied, the performance of tillers as transient sinks is still unclear, especially under stress conditions. Thus, this work aimed to study the yield relationships of wheat stems in contrasting genotypes as affected by tiller treatment under stress conditions. Two experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions using BRS Guamirim (high tillering) and BRS Parrudo (low tillering) wheat cultivars. Four tillering treatments were applied on late tillers in the first growing season (2016) and three in the second (2017): (i) free-tillering, (ii) detillering, (iii) physical suppression (only in the first season) and (iv) “spikes removal”. The main stem and the first four emitted tillers were...

ABSTRACT The use of dark septate fungi (DSE) to promote plant growth can be beneficial to agriculture, and these organisms are important allies in the search for sustainable agriculture practices. This study investigates the contribution of dark septate fungi to the absorption of nutrients by rice plants and their ensuing growth. Four dark septate fungi isolates that were identified by Internal transcribed spacer phylogeny were inoculated in rice seeds (Cv. Piauí). The resulting root colonization was estimated and the kinetic parameters Vmax and Km were calculated from the nitrate contents of the nutrient solution. The macronutrient levels in the shoots, and the NO3--N, NH4+-N, free amino-N and soluble sugars in the roots, sheathes and leaves were...
