Comparative analysis of exhaust gases from MF285 and U650 tractors under field conditions CIGR Journal
Rashid, Gholami; Hekmat, Rabbani; Ali Nejat, Lorestani; Payam, Javadikia; Farzad, Jaliliantabar.
Agricultural machinery is an important source of emission of air pollutant in rural locations.  This work deals with the effects of types of tractors and operation conditions on engine emission.  The values of some exhaust gases (HC, CO, CO2, O2 and NO) from two common tractors (MF285 and U650) at three situations (use of ditcher, plowing and cultivator) were evaluated in the West of IRAN (Kermanshah).  In addition, engine oil temperature at operation conditions was measured.  Also results showed the values of exhaust HC and O2 of MF285 are lower than U650, while the other exhausts gases (CO, CO2, and NO) of MF285 are higher than U650.  Value of NO emission increased as engine oil temperature increased.  All of exhaust gases except CO have a significant...

Influence of tyres characteristics and travelling speed on ride vibrations of a modern medium powered tractor Part II, Evaluation of the Health Risk CIGR Journal
Servadio, Pieranna; Belfiore, Nicola Pio.
In this paper, according to ISO 2631/1, 1997, the influence of the mechanical vibrations on human health is evaluated and assessed with four methods: the health guidance caution zones (HGCZ), the estimated vibration dose value (eVDV), the fourth power vibration dose value (VDV), a combination of various methods presented in literature.  The normative refers to the HGCZ, which involves the average RMS vibration emission level and its exposure time during a given working day.  Values of crest factor for the operator seat showed that Z-axis was the more solicited, even if all the crest factor values are below 9.  Results of mechanical vibration in respect of comfort and health, according with the method of the HGCZ, showed that only case B, at higher forward...

Evaluation of five traction models for agricultural tractors in Colombia CIGR Journal
Castillo, Bernardo.
The behavior of traction devices of agricultural tractors has been modeled by analytical techniques and through the use of empirical equations, the latter methodology has shown good results and numerous applications. This article presented the evaluation of four empirical traction models and one semi-empirical in order to establish the model that best fit to Colombian agricultural soil mechanization and to propose a tool that better assess the traction behavior of tractors in the field. Taking into account all terrains conditions evaluated, the model that best adjusted was the Gee-Clough and collaborators model and it was possible to explain the 90% of the draft forces measured. Also the model of Evans and others, using improved prediction coefficients of...

Is There Surplus Labor in Rural India? AgEcon
Foster, Andrew D.; Rosenzweig, Mark R..
We show empirically using panel data at the plot and farm level and based on a model incorporating supervision costs, risk, credit-market imperfections and scale-economies associated with mechanization that small-scale farming is inefficient in India. Larger farms are more profitable per acre, more mechanized, less constrained in input use after bad shocks, and employ less per-acre labor than small farms. Based on our structural estimates of the effects of farm size on labor use and the distribution of Indian landholdings, we estimate that over 20% of the Indian agricultural labor force is surplus if minimum farm scale is 20 acres.
