| Abstract: Background - Plants rely on their root microbiome as the first line of defense against soil-borne fungal pathogens. The abundance and activities of beneficial root microbial taxa at the time prior to and during fungal infection are key to their protective success. If and how invading fungal root pathogens can disrupt microbiome assembly and gene expression is still largely unknown. | The discovery of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) is changed our understanding of genome, transcriptome, and interactions with proteome in a cell. Since the discovery of the first microRNA (miRNA) called lin-4 on Caenorhabditis elegans in 1993, our understanding of gene expression has deepened. Further miRNA discoveries have led to the investigation of new ncRNA families and their function, biogenesis, and interactions with other types of molecules. Recent developments in bioinformatics, public databases, sequencing technologies, and biochemical techniques have increased our understanding of the biogenesis, function, and interactions of ncRNAs. | Banana (Musa spp.), which is one of the world's most popular and most traded fruits, is highly susceptible to pests and diseases. Pseudocercospora musae, responsible for Sigatoka leaf spot disease, is a principal fungal pathogen of Musa spp., resulting in serious economic damage to cultivars in the Cavendish subgroup. | Abstract: Humicola grisea var. thermoidea is a thermophilic ascomycete and important enzyme producer that has an efficient enzymatic system with a broad spectrum of thermostable carbohydrate-active (CAZy) enzymes. These enzymes can be employed in lignocellulose biomass deconstruction and other industrial applications. In this work, the genome of H. grisea var. thermoidea was sequenced. | White striping (WS) is a myopathy characterized by the appearance of white stripes parallel to the muscle fibers in the breast of broiler chickens, composed of adipose and connective tissues. This condition causes economic losses and, although common, its etiology remains poorly understood. Hence, the objective was to identify genes and biological mechanisms involved in the early stages of WS using a paternal broiler line that grows slightly slower than commercial ones, at 35 days of age, through the RNA sequencing of the pectoralis major muscle. | New sequencing technologies brought deep probing of transcriptomes (so-called RNAseq) to the reach of individual researches. Analysis of RNAseq sequences, however, depend on the alignment of reads to a reference genome. Some approaches have been proposed to allow de novo assembly of the transcripts, therefore allowing RNAseq to be used on organisms lacking a reference genome. | Drought is one of the abiotic stresses that most affect plant growth and productivity. Grasses of the genus Paspalum are successfully used as turf and forage in Australia, Argentina, Brazil and United States. Paspalum notatum has good forage quality, and P. vaginatum, high tolerance to salinity. In addition, their potential to tolerate drought has been described previously, making them interesting for transcriptome studies under water deficit.
