Molluscan pathogens of concern to ASEAN ArchiMer
Bondad-reantaso, Melba; Berthe, Franck.
Pacific oysters were introduced into west coast of the USA from Matsushima Bay in Japan, infected with low levels of Haplosporidiumsp. identical to H.nelsoni(MSX) which causes high mortalities of Eastern oyster (C. virginica). A highly specific and sensitive DNA probe for H. nelsonican also detect Haplosporidium sp. in C.gigas of western US and Japan (Burreson and Stokes 2000).In 2002, H. nelsoni was detected in Japan using the same probe (Kamaishi and Yoshinaga 2002).Lesson: it appears that H. nelsoni does not cause serious disease in Pacific oysters; H. nelsoniis now speculated to have been introduced into the Pacific US by apparently healthy but infected C. gigas. Infected C. gigaswere introduced onto the east coast of the US where the parasite shifted...

The Pacific cupped oyster Crassostrea gigas : a species introduced in Europe for aquaculture in the 70's to become invasive in the late 90's ArchiMer
Miossec, Laurence; Goulletquer, Philippe.
The Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas: from an introduced species for aquaculture to an invasive species for the ecosystem Miossec L. and Goulletquer Ph. The Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas has been introduced worldwide for aquaculture purposes since the beginning of the last century. In most of the countries the species established broadly, emphasizing its ability to adapt to a wide range of environmental conditions. In Europe the Pacific oyster was massively introduced in the 1970s especially into France after mass mortalities of the Portuguese oyster Crassostrea angulata affected by a viral disease. Good environmental conditions in some French areas on the Atlantic coast induced successful recruitments in the following years. The population became...

Networks with Group Counterproposals AgEcon
Nieva, Ricardo.
We study two n-player sequential network formation games with externalities. Link formation is tied to simultaneous transfer selection in a Nash demand like game in each period. Players in groups can counterpropose. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for efficiency in terms of cyclical monotonicity. The n-player group version always yields efficiency.

Effects of the CDM on Poverty Eradication and Global Climate Protection AgEcon
Rubbelke, Dirk T.G.; Rive, Nathan.
In an impure public good model we analyze the effects of CDM transfers on poverty as well as on the global climate protection level. We construct an analytical model of a developing and an industrialized region, both of which independently seek to maximize their utility – a function of private consumption, domestic air quality, and global climate protection. They do so by distributing their finite expenditures across (1) the aggregate consumption good, (2) end-of-pipe pollution control technologies, and (3) greenhouse gas abatement. Based on our analytical findings, we develop two sets of simulations for China in which we vary the rate of the CDM transfer. The simulations differ by the assumption of China’s domestic air quality policy – the first assumes a...

Transfers, Agglomeration and German Unification AgEcon
Ross, Matthias.
This paper analyses in the framework of a 2-region economic geography model the impact of transfers on agglomeration of economic activity. Two main results can be derived: First, subsidies to the activity of firms are more efficient to avoid agglomeration than subsidies to consumers (social policy). Second, if a less developed region starts its catch up process first increasing and afterwards decreasing transfers are necessary to avoid agglomeration. Due to these results east Germany's slowdown of convergence may be a consequence of too less transfers and especially too less firm subsidies. Furthermore, if East Germany locates still at the first stage of convergence even increasing transfers would be necessary to guarantee convergence. Im Rahmen eines...
