SantAnna. The objective of this work is to identify the best location to install oil mills to process vegetable oil, obtained from castor, in the North Central Region in the State of Bahia, Brazil. Fifty five cities in that region have been identified as producers of this vegetable as so as their respective productivity and distance between them and the cities for the installation of the oil mills. Besides, the city of Candeias was elected to receive the produced oil, since there is a factory (PETROBRAS) that biodiesel castor oil. The objective of this study is to determine the optimum economically location of new slaughter and processing plants of poultry and pork in Brazil, considering the minimization of transportation cost and acquisition of corn and soy bran, and the transportation cost of meat. The theory of localization was used, as theoretical approach, reletead to the weberiana theory of the industrial localization, used, with larger intensity. Network capacited model is used as analytic tool. Planned introductions of genetically modified crop varieties can be troublesome to model. Estimation of demand and supply equations is not feasible due to lack of data. Further, specifying demand and supply equations requires calibration to a presumed equilibrium. Depending on the point chosen, highly questionable results may be obtained. We propose a model that uses existing supply, demand, and elasticity estimates. The approach relies on composite supply and demand functions. These composite functions are linear combinations of GM and non-GM varieties. We then employ this approach in a model of world wheat trade to analyze the impact of several plausible GM wheat adoption and consumer acceptability scenarios.
