ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAE IN AGRICULTURAL AND FOREST ECOSYSTEMS IN CHILE J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Borie,Fernando; Rubio,Rosa; Morales,Alfredo; Curaqueo,Gustavo; Cornejo,Pablo.
Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) association plays a key role in the sustainability of terrestrial plant ecosystems, in particular those presenting limitations for the establishment and subsequent growth of plants. In Chile, more than 50% of arable soils are originated from volcanic ashes, showing in general several constraints to crop production, such as low pH, high exchangeable aluminum content and low levels of available P. Under these conditions, the management of AM fungal propagules using adequate cultural management practices emerges as a successful alternative in order to maximize the positive effects of AM symbiosis on plant growth in these types of soil. This review presents the results of several years of research about the effect of different...

THE ROLE OF SOIL STRUCTURE ON THE PORE FUNCTIONALITY OF AN ULTISOL J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Dorner,J; Sandoval,P; Dec,D.
A Typic Hapludult was used to evaluate the effect of soil structure and different bulk densities (reached after the destruction of macro aggregates) on functional characteristics of the pore system. The water retention curve, pore-size distribution, shrinkage curve and index were determined in disturbed and structured samples. To evaluate the effect of soil structure on the continuity of the pore system the air permeability at different matrix potentials was measured. From the relationship between the air permeability and air-filled porosity, pore continuity indexes were calculated. The destruction of the soil structure affects the function of its pores. The amount of air-filled pores increased with the reduction of the bulk density, however, the stability...

SOIL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND GROWTH OF SUNFLOWER (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS L.) AS AFFECTED BY THE APPLICATION OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS AND INOCULATION WITH ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Silva,Apolino José Nogueira da; Silva,Ricardo Alencar da; Santos,Juliana da Silva; Medeiros,Jordan Carlos Silva de; Carvalho,Fabíola Gomes de; Silva,Valéria Nogueira da; Oliveira,Cosme Jales de; Araújo,Afrânio César de; Silva,Luiz Eduardo Souza Fernandes da; Gomes Junior,Júlio.
The use of organic fertilizers and the inoculation of mycorrhizal fungi in the cultivation of oil crops is essential to reduce production costs and minimize negative impacts on natural resources. A field experiment was conducted in an Argissolo Amarelo (Ultisol) with the aim of evaluating the effects of fertilizer application and inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on the growth attributes of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and on soil chemical properties. The experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, using a randomized block design with three replicates in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement consisting of four treatments in regard to application of organic fertilizer (liquid biofertilizer, cow urine, mineral...

EFECTO DE LA ADICIÓN DE COMPOST SOBRE PROPÁGULOS MICORRÍCICOS ARBUSCULARES EN UN SUELO VOLCÁNICO DEL CENTRO SUR DE CHILE R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Millaleo M,Rayen; Montecinos U,Camila; Rubio H,Rosa; Contreras N,Aliro; Borie B,Fernando.

Hydro-physical characterization of soils under tropical semi-deciduous forest Scientia Agricola
Cooper,Miguel; Rosa,Jaqueline Dalla; Medeiros,João Carlos; Oliveira,Thalita Campos de; Toma,Raul Shiso; Juhász,Carlos Eduardo Pinto.
The study of the hydro-physical behavior in soils using toposequences is of great importance for better understanding the soil, water and vegetation relationships. This study aims to assess the hydro-physical and morphological characterization of soil from a toposequence in Galia, state of São Paulo, Brazil). The plot covers an area of 10.24 ha (320 × 320 m), located in a semi-deciduous seasonal forest. Based on ultra-detailed soil and topographic maps of the area, a representative transect from the soil in the plot was chosen. Five profiles were opened for the morphological description of the soil horizons, and hydro-physical and micromorphological analyses were performed to characterize the soil. Arenic Haplustult, Arenic Haplustalf and Aquertic...

Effect of Compost Application on Some Properties of a Volcanic Soil from Central South Chile Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Valarini,Pedro José; Curaqueo,Gustavo; Seguel,Alex; Manzano,Karina; Rubio,Rosa; Cornejo,Pablo; Borie,Fernando.
Soil compost application is a common soil management practice used by small farmers of Central-South Chile that produces positive effects on soil properties and also promotes presence and activity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). This fungi form symbiosis with plant roots improving plant nutrition, as well as producing glomalin, a glycoprotein that has been associated with soil aggregation stability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate, in an Ultisol from Central-South Chile, the effect of different doses of compost on some soil characteristics at the end of the third year of a crop sequence including wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), and grassland (Lolium multiflorum Lam. associated with Trifolium repens L.)....
