An Examination of the Relationship between Food Prices and Government Monetary Policies in Iran AgEcon
Shahnoushi, Naser; Henneberry, Shida Rastegari; Manssori, Hooman.
This study examines the relationship between food prices and monetary policy variables, using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) approach applied to annual data from 1976 to 2006. Results indicate that food prices in Iran have a long-run and short-run equilibrium granger causality relationship with money supply. More specifically, monetary policy reforms are shown to have a significant impact on food prices and domestic agricultural production. These policies influence consumption patterns and have serious implications for poverty reduction, food security issues, and agricultural growth in Iran.

Empirical Study on the Impact of Rural Labor Force Flow on the Price of Agricultural Products- A Method Based on VEC Model AgEcon
Wen, Li.
Based on the research introduction of domestic and foreign scholars, dynamic equilibrium between the rural labor force flow and the price of agricultural product is analyzed by VEC model, according to the data of the rural labor force flow and the price of agricultural products in the years 1990-2007. Chow’s breakpoint test is used to measure the stage characteristics of the impact of rural labor force flow on the price of agricultural product. Result shows that there is a long-term and stationary relationship between the flow quantity of rural labor force and the price of agricultural product. Rural labor force flow, as an exogenous force, affects the agricultural production, and further influences the price fluctuation of agricultural products. Impact of...

IDENTIFYING MONETARY IMPACTS ON FOOD PRICES IN CHINA: A VEC MODEL APPROACH AgEcon
Peng, Xuehua; Marchant, Mary A.; Reed, Michael R..
This research attempts to investigate the impacts of monetary variables (such as money supply and interest rates) on food prices in China using a vector error correction (VEC) model approach. Evidence indicates that monetary variables and the food price index (FPI) have a long-run equilibrium relationship in China. Furthermore, the direction of Granger-causality moves from the money supply to the FPI and then to interest rates, rather than the reverse. Monetary impacts on food prices in China mainly stem from the money supply rather than interest rates.
