Canonical correlation analysis allows conclusions to be drawn about the occurrence and magnitude of associations between two groups of characteristics. This study estimated the magnitude of association and interdependence between two trait groups of clones of two varieties of Vitis vinifera grapes. The study was based on the mean data of eight characteristics from two experiments to test the performance of these clones: the first experiment provided data from seven clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, which evaluated in the northern San Joaquin Valley, California, United States, and the second data set was from six clones of the Chardonnay variety, which were evaluated in the Napa Valley, California, United States. The canonical correlations among the two... |

A motorized thresher and a treadle cowpea thresher were evaluated in terms of threshing efficiency (%), throughput capacity (kg h-1), cleaning efficiency (%), mechanical damage (%) and percentage loss (%) for three commonly grown cowpea varieties in Nigeria. The three varieties were 994, IAR48 and TVX. The cylinder concave clearances were fixed at 13, 12 and 11 mm based on the major diameter of each cowpea variety. The investigation was conducted at three levels of moisture contents (12.5%, 15% and 17% wet basis). Evaluation results indicated that for motorized thresher threshing efficiency varied from 71.4 to 82.86%, 73.56 to 87.14% and 77. 63 to 88.57% while for treadle thresher threshing efficiency varied from 20.50 to 24.29%, 21.50 to 25.71% and... |

The advantages of transplanting with respect to direct sowing has been widely reported in several vegetable species, but there are few studies in Cucurbits, and even fewer in summer squash (Cucurbita maxima (Carr.) Millán var. zapallito). Morphological and physiological characteristics of hybrid varieties determine earliness of between 5 to 10 days compared to traditional cultivars. The aim of the study was to compare the summer squash setting systems, direct sowing and nursery seedlings, and to determine their effect on yield and earliness in different genotypes. The hybrid varieties F1 Angelo and Espejo, and the standard varieties Any and Any Plus were used combined with two setting systems (direct sowing and nursery seedlings). Male and female flowering... |

Abstract The anthocyanin profiles and CIELAB color values of nine wines in Vitis germplasms from southern China were compared. The results showed that the anthocyanin composition of wines from one hybrid between V. vinifera and V. labrusca (‘Moldova’), two V. labrusca varieties (‘Conquistador’ and ‘Saint-Croix’), one V. quinquangularis variety (‘Yeniang No.2’), one hybrid between V. quinquangularis and V. vinifera (‘NW196’), one V. davidii variety (‘Xiangniang No.1’) and one V. rotundifolia variety (‘Noble’) were dominated by anthocyanidin 3,5-O-diglucosides. All these were quite different from V. vinifera wines (‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and ‘Marselan’), which were characterized by the monoglucoside and pyranoanthocyanins. 3',4',5'-substituted anthocyanins... |

ABSTRACT: Determining the level of absorption of nutrients in the potato crop at different stages of development is important because it allows identification of the time when the elements are most required by plants. The objective of this research was to evaluate the level of nutrient absorption in cultivars after different planting times. Field experiment was conducted in Guarapuava-PR. Treatments consisted of three cultivars (Agata, BRS Clara, and BRS F63 Camila) and two planting times (October and February), in randomized blocks, with three replications in the crop season 2015/16. The total macro and micronutrient content (leaves, stems, and tubers) was quantified at 15 and 45 days after plant emergence. The total dry weight of plants was verified at... |

ABSTRACT The fertilization of potato crops generally does not take into account the genotype, although genotypes may respond differently to fertilization. This study aimed to determine the yield of new potato genotypes (cultivar BRS Camila and clone CL 02-05), as well as the cultivar Ágata, submitted to four NPK 4-14-8 fertilizer doses (0, 2, 4 and 6 t ha-1) in the crop seasons of 2013/14 and 2014/15. We evaluated the total and marketable tuber yield, total and marketable tuber number, percentage of marketable tuber dry weight, average marketable tuber weight and plant growth period. The experimental design was randomized blocks in split plot scheme, with fertilizer doses allocated as main plots and genotypes as subplots, with three replications. We did... |

ABSTRACT The plant management used in potato crop is usually similar across the main producing regions in Brazil. Same plant spacing are commonly used, despite the differences in climate and soil of the various potato planting areas. The objective of this work was to evaluate the yield of potato cultivars in response to different plant spacing. Experiments were conducted in the field, and the treatments consisted of three cultivars (Agata, BRS Clara and BRS F63 Camila) and three plant spacing (20, 25 and 30 cm) in randomized blocks with three repetitions in two years. The total, marketable and non-marketable tuber yield, total and marketable number of tubers per area and size class, mean total and marketable tuber weight and percentage of tuber dry weight... |

ABSTRACT Camila potato, registered and protected as BRS F63, is a cultivar for the fresh market, with oval tubers of attractive appearance, having shallow eyes, yellow and smooth skin, and light yellow flesh. It presents medium specific gravity (dry matter), which allows greater culinary versatility than ‘Agata’. Cooked tubers have a firm texture and distinctive flavor, with potential for use even in gourmet kitchen, for preparing salads and other similar dishes. The vegetative growth cycle and dormancy are medium. It presents high productive potential, with high percentage of marketable tubers. It is moderately resistant to greening. Concerning physiological disorders in the tubers, ‘BRS F63’ (Camila) is similar to ‘Agata’ and ‘Asterix’ in crops of... |

Abstract Little information on the comparative yield of the main potato cultivars (Solanum tuberosum subsp. tuberosum) used in Brazil is available. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of modern and old, European and Brazilian potato cultivars in different environments. Two experiments were carried in the field in 2013, in Brazil: in Guarapuava, in the state of Paraná, from January to April; and in Brasília, the Federal District, from August to November. Treatments consisted of six cultivars (origin, year of release): Bintje (European, 1910), Monalisa (European, 1982) and Agata (European, 1990); Baronesa (Brazilian, 1955), Catucha (Brazilian, 1995) and BRS Clara (Brazilian, 2010), arranged in complete blocks at random, with four... |
