Use of Morphometric Analyses to Assess the Efficacy of the Technique of Resin Composite Bonded to Cervical Dentin with Additional Mechanical Retentions International Journal of Morphology
Kuramochi,Gisaku; Borie,Eduardo; del Sol,Mariano.
The structural changes and morphological derivatives of progressive dentin hypermineralization determine the bonding to its surface. A planimetric study and fracture volume estimate were conducted to assess the efficacy of resin composite bonded to hypermineralized cervical dentin with and without retentions by applying a shear test. Thirty-four premolars from adult patients were used to obtain a flat cervical dentin surface. The specimens were distributed randomly into two groups: 1) experimental, where hemispherical retentions were carved into the cervical dentin, and 2) control, where the flat dentin was maintained. Using a jig, a resin column was built into the dentin surface fitted with bonding in specimens from both groups, which were then subjected...

Evaluation of Lumbar Vertebral Body and Disc: A Stereological Morphometric Study International Journal of Morphology
Gocmen-Mas,Nuket; Karabekir,Hamit; Ertekin,Tolga; Edizer,Mete; Canan,Yazici; Duyar,Izzet.
Anterior access to the L1-L5 vertebrae and disc spaces can be technically challenging, frequently requiring the use of an approach to a surgeon for an adequate exposure. The technique is used for lesion excision, corpectomy, vertebral body reconstruction with cages, realignment, and/or plating or screwing. For a successful anterior approach and a suitable instrumental design via screw, adequate morphometric knowledge about body of lumbar vertebrae and disc spaces and standardized volumetric data are also required for neurosurgeons. We aimed morphometric and volumetric evaluation of lumbar bodies and discs to contribute to a safe anterior approach during surgery. We evaluated vertebral body and disc morphometry using stereology in right-handed 25 adult...

Equação de volume para espécies comerciais em Floresta Ombrófila Densa no sul de Roraima PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Tonini, Helio; Borges, Renato Alves.

Spatial distribution of wood volume in Brazilian savannas Anais da ABC (AABC)
SILVEIRA,EDUARDA M.O.; REIS,ALINY A. DOS; TERRA,MARCELA C.N.S.; WITHEY,KIERAN D.; MELLO,JOSÉ M. DE; ACERBI-JÚNIOR,FAUSTO W.; FERRAZ FILHO,ANTONIO CARLOS; MELLO,CARLOS R..
Abstract: Here we model and describe the wood volume of Cerrado Sensu Stricto, a highly heterogeneous vegetation type in the Savanna biome, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, integrating forest inventory data with spatial-environmental variables, multivariate regression, and regression kriging. Our study contributes to a better understanding of the factors that affect the spatial distribution of the wood volume of this vegetation type as well as allowing better representation of the spatial heterogeneity of this biome. Wood volume estimates were obtained through regression models using different environmental variables as independent variables. Using the best fitted model, spatial analysis of the residuals was carried out by selecting a semivariogram...

The importance of accurate anatomic assessment for the volumetric analysis of the amygdala BJMBR
Bonilha,L.; Kobayashi,E.; Cendes,F.; Li,L.M..
There is a wide range of values reported in volumetric studies of the amygdala. The use of single plane thick magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may prevent the correct visualization of anatomic landmarks and yield imprecise results. To assess whether there is a difference between volumetric analysis of the amygdala performed with single plane MRI 3-mm slices and with multiplanar analysis of MRI 1-mm slices, we studied healthy subjects and patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. We performed manual delineation of the amygdala on T1-weighted inversion recovery, 3-mm coronal slices and manual delineation of the amygdala on three-dimensional volumetric T1-weighted images with 1-mm slice thickness. The data were compared using a dependent t-test. There was a...

Brain tissue segmentation using q-entropy in multiple sclerosis magnetic resonance images BJMBR
Diniz,P.R.B.; Murta-Junior,L.O.; Brum,D.G.; de Araújo,D.B.; Santos,A.C..
The loss of brain volume has been used as a marker of tissue destruction and can be used as an index of the progression of neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis. In the present study, we tested a new method for tissue segmentation based on pixel intensity threshold using generalized Tsallis entropy to determine a statistical segmentation parameter for each single class of brain tissue. We compared the performance of this method using a range of different q parameters and found a different optimal q parameter for white matter, gray matter, and cerebrospinal fluid. Our results support the conclusion that the differences in structural correlations and scale invariant similarities present in each tissue class can be accessed by generalized...
