PERFORMANCES AND EFFICIENCIES OF THE IRRIGATION WATER USERS’ ASSOCIATIONS IN TUNISIA AgEcon
Frija, Aymen; Speelman, Stijn; Chebil, Ali; Buysse, Jeroen; Van Huylenbroeck, Guido.
This article analyzes the efficiency of Water Users Associations (WUA) in the Cap Bon region (Tunisia) and studies its main determinants. The analysis is performed in two stages. First, the efficiency is measured via the nonparametric “Data Envelopment Analysis” (DEA) technique. The DEA models are constructed not only to assess the overall WUA efficiency but also to evaluate the management and engineering sub-vectors efficiencies separately through a mathematical modification in the initial DEA model. In a second stage critical determinants of efficiency are determined using a Tobit model. In this analysis the focus is on technical (characteristics of the irrigation area and network), organizational and administrative variables. Results show that on...

The Irrigation Service Fees and Affordability After the Management Transfer: Empirical Evidence from Ban Vuen- Tonhen WUA in Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR AgEcon
Rasphone, Arounyadeth; Osanami, Fumio; Kondo, Takumi.
This study attempts to identify the cause of lowing rate of irrigation use fee's collection through the examination of the farmer affordability in paying the fee. The study chooses to investigate one of the nine pilot irrigation management transfer programs in the Lao PDR. The study scheme, Ban Vuen-Tonhen water user association, has earned remarkable reputation in outstanding operation and management, water distribution, and the fee collection. The irrigation service fee (ISF) affordable function and 45 degree plotting diagram are used in the analysis. The findings indicate that farmers, who cultivate rice only, have the least capacity to pay the fee. However, other farmers, who cultivate rice and cash crops or only cash-crop, are able to pay the fee and...

Ecohydrological modeling and environmental flow regime in the Formoso River, Minas Gerais State, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
GUEDES,HUGO A. S.; SILVA,DEMETRIUS D.; DERGAM,JORGE A.; ELESBON,ABRAHÃO A. A..
ABSTRACT This paper aimed at determining the environmental flow regime in a 1 km stretch of the Formoso River, MG, using River2D model. To carry out the ecohydrological modeling, the following information was used: bathymetry, physical and hydraulic features, and the Habitat Suitability Index for species of the Hypostomus auroguttatus. In the River2D, the Weighted Usable Areas were determined from the average long-term streamflows with percentage from 10% to 100%. Those streamflows were simulated for the later construction of optimization matrices that maximize the habitat area throughout the year. For H. auroguttatus Juvenile, higher values of Weighted Usable Area were associated with the percentage of 60% and 70% of the average long-term streamflows in...
