Relationship between speed, soil movement into the cereal row and intra-row weed control efficacy by weed harrowing Organic Eprints

Field trials were made at a single Danish and two Spanish locations. In Denmark winter wheat was sown at 24 cm spacing allowing hoeing in the inter-row area. Hoeing speeds of 2, 5 and 8 km h-1 were tested at the end of tillering, at the beginning of stem elongation and at both times. The crop was harrowed immediately afterwards at the same speed. In the Spanish locations the winter barley was sown at a spacing of 12 cm and harrowed only at either pre-emergence plus post-emergence or once post-emergence at mid-tillering at 2, 4, 6 and 8 km h-1. The depth of the soil layer thrown into the cereal row was measured. This layer ranged between 0.4 cm and 1.4 cm depending on the site and on the treatment, but was generally higher with a single treatment at all...

Strategier for ukrudtsbekæmpelse i økologisk vinterhvede Organic Eprints

Ukrudt kan være et stort problem og reducere udbyttet af økologisk dyrket vinterhvede. Ukrudtsharvning kan skade hveden når den udføres om efteråret, og kan give utilstrækkelig effekt mod oprette ukrudtsarter med pælerod når den udføres om foråret. Forsinket såning af vinterhvede fra sidst i september til først i oktober har tidligere vist sig at kunne reducere ukrudtsmængden når der ikke udførtes ukrudtsbekæmpelse. En forsøgsrække blev gennemført med niveau af mekanisk ukrudtsbekæmpelse, såstrategi (tidlig hhv. sen såning eller falsk såbed), rækkeafstand (normal, ca. 12 cm eller stor, ca. 24 cm) og ukrudtsbekæmpelse (ubehandlet, mekanisk eller herbicid). A competitive crop stand is a basis requirement for indirect weed control, potentially reducing the need for direct control measures. Efficient light interception by crop canopies can suppress weed growth by shading. As part of the EU-project ″Strategies of weed control in Organic Farming″ (WECOF) weed suppression by crop shading ability were evaluated in winter wheat. Three wheat cultivars with different leaf inclination and height (Greif, Astron, Pegassos) were grown at three row widths (12 cm, 17 cm and 24 cm) and two drilling directions (East-West, North-South) using a three-factorial design. Einfluß der Sorte und Bestandesdichte auf Ertrag und Unkrautbesatz bei Futtererbsen Organic Eprints

Experiments with peas had been conducted during two years. Four varieties with four plant densities had been tested with respect to yield and weed growth. Conclusions are that the recommended plant density of 80 kernels/sqm is sufficient for yield and less weed-growth. For weed growth the choosen variety is more important than the plant density. Stability till harvest is the most important characteristic of variety for reducing weed growth.

Ukrudtsbekæmpelse i økologisk dyrket vintersæd: resultater og erfaringer Organic Eprints

I Danmark dyrkes en del vintersæd økologisk – især vinterhvede, men også rug og triticale. Et af problemerne i vintersæden kan være ukrudtsbekæmpelse. Mekanisk ukrudtsbekæmpelse i vintersæd frembyder både nogle problemer og nogle muligheder. Forskningsresultater viser, at med et lavt ukrudtstryk kan vintersæden sås til normal tid ved almindelig rækkeafstand og der kan udføres ukrudtsbekæmpelse ved ukrudtsharvning efterår og forår, men ved højt ukrudtstryk og især forekomst af arter med pælerod og strækningsvækst som lugtløs kamille (Tripleurospermum inodorum), korn-valmue (Papaver rhoeas) m.fl. vil det være mere hensigtsmæssigt at så sent, på stor rækkeafstand og med høj udsædsmængde, så der kan udføres radrensning kombineret med ukrudtsharvning.
