EFFECT OF BIOPOWER APPLICATION ON WEED GROWTH AND YIELD OF RICE Planta Daninha
SANA,N.; BAJWA,R.; JAVAID,A.; SHOAIB,A..
ABSTRACT Biopower is a commercial rice biofertilizer comprised of various associative nitrogen fixers. In this present study, a field trial was carried out to assess the effects of Biopower application on the growth of some rice weeds and yield of rice (Oryza sativa). Four common rice weeds namely Cyperus rotundus, Echinochloa colonum, Marsilea minuta, Paspalum paspaloides, and mixed weeds were sown in 1:1 weed crop ratio in soil amended with i) ½ dose of N (nitrogen) + recommended doses of PK (phosphorus, potassium) fertilizers, ii) recommended doses of NPK fertilizers, and iii) farmyard manure (FYM) + ¼NPK fertilizers, with and without Biopower application. Biopower application variably reduced weed biomass in different soil amendment systems. The effect...

ลักษณะของต้นและรากข้าวเพื่อการแข่งขันกับวัชพืช Thai Agricultural
Ronnachai Changsri; Namuco, Ofelia; Johnson, David.
Greenhouse study was conducted at the Weed Science, Crop and Environmental Sciences Division, IRRI in February-April, 2013. The objective was to assess the competitiveness of rice (IR64, Sabita, KDML105, Weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea Acc. 105798 (THA)) and six rice progenies derived from a cross between IR64 and Sabita that have high potential for competitiveness against weeds. The six progenies were SB561 (IR88633:1-66-B), SB562 (IR88633:1-67-B), SB604 (IR88633:1-136-B), SB665 (IR88633:1-138-B), SB708 (IR88633:20-69-B) and SB769 (IR88633:12-55-B). We evaluated the competitive ability of these rice genotypes under severe pressure from Echinochloa colona. The experimental design was RCB with 3 replications. Several rice shoot and root traits were...

Reduced Doses of a Sulfonylurea Herbicide for Weed Management in Wheat Fields of Punjab, Pakistan Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Khaliq,Abdul; Matloob,Amar; Tanveer,Asif; Areeb,Ahsan; Aslam,Farhena; Abbas,Nadeem.
Reduction in herbicide usage without compromising yields can lead to less environmental harm and lower production costs. Field trials were conducted to appraise the efficacy of reduced doses (25, 50, and 75% of the label dose) of a post emergence sulfonylurea herbicide [Atlantis 3.6WG (iodo+mesosulfuron)] to control weeds in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) fields of Punjab, Pakistan. Below-labeled-doses were quite effective in suppressing total weed density (72-95%) and biomass (83-94%), and wheat grain yield was increased by 22 to 48% over the weedy control, while label dose of iodo+mesosulfuron improved yield by 53%. Iodo+mesosulfuron at 25 and 50% of the label dose inhibited grass weeds by 43 to 64%, albeit their biomass was suppressed by > 80% over...

Bio-Economic and Qualitative Impact of Reduced Herbicide use in Direct Seeded Fine Rice Through Multipurpose Tree Water Extracts Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Khaliq,Abdul; Matloob,Amar; Riaz,Yasir.
Weed control program should be environmentally benign and cost-effective so that reduced herbicide use can help meet these goals. Field trials were conducted to assess the bio-economic and qualitative impact of reduced doses (25 and 50% of label dose) of a postemergence pyrimidinyloxybenzoic acid herbicide (bispyribac-sodium) applied alone or in combination with multipurpose tree (eucalyptus Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., mango Mangifera indica L., and mulberry Morus alba L.) water extracts in direct seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.) fields. The label dose of bispyribac-sodium and penoxsulam along with weed control were included for comparison. Tank mixing of multipurpose tree water extracts with reduced herbicide doses accounted for > 55% suppression in...
