Cost reduction in plant breeding and conservation programs depends largely on correctly defining the minimal sample size required for the trustworthy assessment of intra- and inter-cultivar genetic variation. White clover, an important pasture legume, was chosen for studying this aspect. In clonal plants, such as the aforementioned, an appropriate sampling scheme eliminates the redundant analysis of identical genotypes. The aim was to define an optimal sampling strategy, i.e., the minimum sample size and appropriate sampling scheme for white clover cultivars, by using AFLP data (283 loci) from three popular types. A grid-based sampling scheme, with an interplant distance of at least 40 cm, was sufficient to avoid any excess in replicates. Simulations... |

ABSTRACT: Imazapyr+imazapic ready mix is the main herbicide used to weed control in Clearfield® Rice System. The continuous use of high doses may increase their residual activity in the soil. The aim of this research was determine the sensitivity of cover crops and soybean in rotation with flooded rice to different levels of imazapyr+imazapic residues in the soil and its effect on soil microbiology. A field experiment was performed during the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons. In the first crop season, flooded rice was cultivated using herbicide rates in order to have levels of residue in the soil: 0, 140 (label dosage, equivalent to 73.5+24.5 g a.i. ha-1), 280, 560, 840 and 1,120 g ha-1. After crop harvest, during fall-winter, it was sown ryegrass, white clover... |

The dynamics of nitrogen (N) in ryegrass intercropped with different forage species with regard to dry matter (DM) accumulation within an agroecological transition system was evaluated. Annual ryegrass was intercropped with black oats (RY + BO), white clover (RY + WC) and forage peanut (RY + FP). The experimental design was completely randomized, with three replications. The study applied the N dilution model for plant tissue which comparatively uses modifiable factors of the environment at optimal levels. The model shows decline in N concentration due to the DM accumulation of temperate grass pastures. Data were compared to model by the root mean square deviation analysis. Dilution coefficient (β), used in all pasture samples, was lower than -0.60.... |
