The spatiotemporal structure of wind-driven circulation patterns and associated water exchanges can drive important bio-hydrodynamic interactions in shallow lagoons. The Vaccares lagoon system is a complex shallow hydrosystem located in the central part of the Rhone Delta (France). It is internationally recognized as part of a biosphere reserve within the framework of UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Programme, and as a RAMSAR site. Due to its frequent occurrence in this area, and considering the shallowness of the Vaccares lagoon system, wind is assumed to play a major role in the hydrodynamic and biological processes. Ce travail porte prinipalement sur les courants marins et en particuliers sur la circulation dans la zone côtière sénégalaise et les masses d'eaux qu'on y rencontre. Nous avons donné quelques notions générales sur les courant marins. Au large de la côte sénégalaise, il y a deux grandes circulations: (1) le courant nord-équatorial qui prend naissance vers les îles du Cap-Vert et qui transporte les eaux froides du courant dit des Canaries vers l'ouest; (2) le contre-courant équatorial transportrant vers l'est les eaux chaudes et salées formées sur le bord sud du courant nord-équatorial.
