Bacterial leaf blight disease (BB) of rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (ex Ishiyama) (Xoo). In 2007 found severe outbreak in central region and lower north region of Thailand in Phitsanulok 2 and Chai Nat 1 variety. The farmers’s yield has been damaged. Integrated disease management (IDM) by applied the cultural practices combined with bactericide to reduce the disease severity in paddy field, that cultivated non-resistant variety to BB. Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) disease is caused by bacteria Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). Infection of this disease can occur at all stages of rice plants from seedling to heading. It can cause as high as 80 % yield reduction. The utilization of resistant varieties have been considered to be the most effective way to control the disease. At present, rice varieties are not widely resistant to BLB disease which has many strains. The resistant varieties having different BLB resistant genes are associated with the different strains of the pathogen. It is necessary to improve rice varieties for widely resistance to BLB disease. Rice improvement for BLB disease resistance was conducted by crossing between a line (RGDU07097-1-MAS-8-9-B-1) with BLB disease...
