Identification of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for alcoholic fermentation by discriminant factorial analysis on electronic nose signals Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Calderon-Santoyo,Montserrat; Chalier,Pascale; Chevalier-Lucia,Dominique; Ghommidh,Charles; Ragazzo-Sanchez,Juan Arturo.
An electronic nose (E-nose) coupled to gas chromatography was tested to monitor alcoholic fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae ICV-K1 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae T306, two strains well-known for their use in oenology. The biomass and ethanol concentrations and conductance changes were measured during cultivations and allowed to observe the standard growth phases for both yeast strains. The two strains were characterized by a very similar tendency in biomass or ethanol production during the fermentation. E-nose was able to establish a kinetic of the production of aroma compounds production and which was then easy to associate with the fermentation phases. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed that the data collected by E-nose during the...

Нефтеокисляющие дрожжи перифитона систем гидробиологической очистки морских вод IBSS Repository
Миронов, О. Г.; Дорошенко, Ю. В..

Marine culturable yeasts in deep-sea hydrothermal vents: species richness and association with fauna ArchiMer
Burgaud, Gaetan; Arzur, Danielle; Durand, Lucile; Cambon-bonavita, Marie-anne; Barbier, Georges.
Investigations of the diversity of culturable yeasts at deep-sea hydrothermal sites have suggested possible interactions with endemic fauna. Samples were collected during various oceanographic cruises at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, South Pacific Basins and East Pacific Rise. Cultures of 32 isolates, mostly associated with animals, were collected. Phylogenetic analyses of 26S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the yeasts belonged to Ascomycota and Basidiomycota phyla, with the identification of several genera: Rhodotorula, Rhodosporidium, Candida, Debaryomyces and Cryptococcus. Those genera are usually isolated from deep-sea environments. To our knowledge, this is the first report of yeasts associated with deep-sea hydrothermal animals.

Moniliellomycetes and Malasseziomycetes, two new classes in Ustilaginomycotina Naturalis
Wang, Q.-M.; Theelen, B.; Groenewald, M.; Bai, F.-Y.; Boekhout, T..
Ustilaginomycotina (Basidiomycota, Fungi) has been reclassified recently based on multiple gene sequence analyses. However, the phylogenetic placement of two yeast-like genera Malassezia and Moniliella in the subphylum remains unclear. Phylogenetic analyses using different algorithms based on the sequences of six genes, including the small subunit (18S) ribosomal DNA (rDNA), the large subunit (26S) rDNA D1/D2 domains, the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS 1 and 2) including 5.8S rDNA, the two subunits of RNA polymerase II (RPB1 and RPB2) and the translation elongation factor 1-α (EF1-α), were performed to address their phylogenetic positions. Our analyses indicated that Malassezia and Moniliella represented two deeply rooted lineages within...

Baker's yeast as a potential substitute for live algae in aquaculture diets: Artemia as a case study OMA
Coutteau, P.; Lavens, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
In this study baker's yeast was evaluated as a substitute for live Dunaliella tertiolecta algae in the culture of the brine shrimp Artemia . Consumption of fresh baker's yeast resulted in poor growth and survival of brine shrimp. However, the nutritional value of the yeast significantly improved after complete removal of the yeast cell wall by enzymatic treatment. Baker's yeast was also made digestible for Artemia by simple chemical treatment which did not reduce rigidity of the yeast cell. The external mannoprotein layer of the yeast cell wall is probably the major barrier to digestion by Artemia . Chemically treated baker's yeast offers promising possibilities as a substitute for...

Promising results in the seed culturing of the Manila clam Tapes semidecussata with a manipulated yeast product as a partial substitute for algae OMA
Albentosa, M.; Naessens, E.; Léger, P.; Coutteau, P.; Lavens, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
The results are presented of preliminary trials conducted with Tapes semiducussata spat using manipulated yeast products as substitutes for unicellular algae in their diets. Findings showed that spat growth increased with increasing amounts of algae in the artificial diet; growth was very poor when no algae were offered at all. It is concluded that manipulated yeasts may replace a substantial part of the algae in clam diets, but complete replacement is not possible, yet.

Performance, carcass characteristics and gain cost of feedlot cattle fed a high level of concentrate and different feed additives R. Bras. Zootec.
Rodrigues,Érico; Arrigoni,Mário De Beni; Andrade,Cláudia Regina Mendonça; Martins,Cyntia Ludovico; Millen,Danilo Domingues; Parra,Fernando Salvador; Jorge,André Mendes; Andrighetto,Cristiana.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of feeding cattle with isoprotein and isoenergetic diets, with and without the addition of polyclonal antibody preparation (PAP), yeasts (YST) or monensin sodium (MON) on performance, carcass characteristics and gain cost in feedlot. Ninety-five 20-month old bullocks (323.3±21.8 kg) were distributed in 25 pens. The completely randomized experimental design had a 2 × 2 + 1 factorial arrangement and the treatments were replicated 5 times. There was no effect of MON for DMI throughout the feedlot period; however, MON reduced the dry matter intake (DMI) in g/kg of BW in the first 28 days when compared with the other treatments. The gain cost decreased with MON addition in relation to the other treatments....
