Effect of age of dam on weight of calf in the genetic assessment of Zebu cattle in random regression models Animal Sciences
Ferreira, Jorge Luis; Lopes, Fernando Brito; Bresolin, Tiago; Garcia, José Américo Soares; Minharro, Silvia; Lôbo, Raysildo Barbosa.
Current analysis estimated co-variance components and genetic parameters for growth traits by random regression models taking into consideration the cow’s age on the weight of calves. Genealogical data and records on weights of male and female Zebu cattle, born between 1993 and 2011, were provided by the National Association of Breeders and Researchers (ANCP). Different models were compared by Akaike and Bayesian criteria. Legendre’s orthogonal polynomials were used to model the direct and maternal genetic effects of maternal and animal permanent environmental effects. Joint modeling of cow age at the moment their progenies were weighed resulted in more accurate estimates of co-variance components and genetics parameters. Co-variance functions of the cow...

Gir and Guzerat cow milk production and composition according to lactation stage, somatic cell count, physiological state and body condition Animal Sciences
Araújo, Thalita Polyana Monteiro; Rangel, Adriano Henrique do Nascimento; Lima, Guilherme Ferreira da Costa; Peixoto, Maria Gabriela Campolina Diniz; Urbano, Stela Antas; Bezerra, Joadilza da Silva.
This work was realized to evaluate lactation stage, physiological state, somatic cell count (SCC) and body condition score (BCS) on production and composition of cow's milk from Gir and Guzerat breeds were studied. Ninety-eight cows were analyzed and classified according to their physiological state, lactation stage, SCC and BCS. Milk production was weighed monthly to obtain production data. Composed samples were collected in vials containing preservatives and sent to the laboratory for analysis. Data were used for statistic descriptive analysis and analysis of variance. Higher milk production in the first 60 days of lactation was observed. Fat, protein and total solids concentration increased according to the increase of days in milk; while lactose...

Estimation of genetic and phenotypic trends for dairy traits of Gyr and Guzerá breeds Animal Sciences
Rangel, Adriano Henrique do Nascimento; Araújo, Thalita Polyana Monteiro; Lima, Guilherme Ferreira da Costa; Borba, Luiz Henrique Fernandes; Peixoto, Maria Gabriela Campolina Diniz; Lima Júnior, Dorgival Morais de.
Milk production has high economic importance in dairy cattle production systems, which justifies its inclusion in genetic breeding programs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic and phenotypic trends of dairy traits in Gyr (167 lactations) and Guzerá (148 lactations) breeds in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). Milk, fat and protein production obtained from monthly dairy controls were the traits evaluated. The expected differences in progeny (DEPs) for these traits were estimated using an animal model. From the means of phenotypic values and DEPs, we estimated the genetic and phenotypic trends in linear regressions as a function of the year of calving of the animal. Positive genetic and phenotypic trends were observed for Gyr (26.8...

Contemporary groups in the genetic evaluation of Nellore cattle using Bayesian inference PAB
Silva,Delvan Alves da; Silva,Fabyano Fonseca e; Ventura,Henrique Torres; Junqueira,Vinícius Silva; Silva,Alessandra Alves da; Mota,Rodrigo Reis; Lopes,Paulo Sávio.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the criteria for the formation of contemporary groups (CGs) in the genetic evaluation of body weight at weaning in Nellore cattle. A total of 713,474 records from 3,066 herds located in Midwestern and Northern Brazil were used. Data were obtained from the genealogical registry of zebu breeds of the Brazilian association of zebu breeders. Data structures were defined based on the number of standard deviations (SDs) for outlier removal (±2.0, ±2.5, ±3.0, and ±3.5) and on the minimal number of animals per CG (3, 7, and 15). Genetic evaluation was performed with an animal model using Bayesian inference. Data structures with ±3.5 SDs and CG with at least 15 animals presented the highest additive genetic...
