The effect of using chemical fertilization, organic and pyroligneous extract (EPL) on the seedling development of areca bamboo palm was evaluated. Treatments were: T1 = no fertilizer (control), T2 = 0.1% EPL, T3 = 0.2% EPL, T4 = NPK-20-5-20, T5 = NPK-20-5-20 + 0.1% EPL, T6 = NPK-20-05-20 + 0.2% EPL, T7 = castor bean cake, T8 = castor bean cake + 0.1% EPL and T9 = castor bean cake + 0.2% EPL. The EPL solutions were 0.1 or 0.2%, 100 mL per pot, applied every two weeks. NPK 20-5-20 chemical fertilizer was applied at three month intervals and castor bean cake organic fertilizer was applied once a month (40 g per pot for both). Plant height and the number of leaves and shoots were evaluated one year after the beginning of the trial. The organic fertilizer on... |

The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters of the IPR 114 maize commercial variety for breeding purpose and the efficiency of the method. It was perfomed two cycles of half-sib progenie, between 2004 and 2007. The progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block desing with two replications per environments and the plots were composed of one 4 m length row spaced on 0.8 m, and five plants per meter. The trials were carried out in Londrina and Ponta Grossa, Paraná State, Brazil. There were evaluated 173 and 154 progenies for selection cycles 1 and 2, respectively, analyzing the following traits: plant height, ear height, days to flower, prolificacy and predict grain yield. In both cycles verified significant genetic... |

The purpose of this work was to study the percentage of healthy trees, living trees and healthy branches and the renewal (natural propagation) of Caryocar brasiliense associated with the properties of soil, the floristic diversity and the canopy size of this plant. Lower proportions of live C. brasiliense trees and of healthy branches were found in the Savanna of Ibiracatu, where only 30% of the trees were healthy and without visible signs of attack by wood borers and by Phomopsis sp. We observed that C. brasiliense trees in areas where the soils contained higher levels of summed chemical bases and total sand (fine + gross) were less healthy. Moreover, the areas whose soils contained higher levels of aluminum and clay had a higher percentage of healthy C.... |
