| In the following pages sorne account is given of 20 species of Nemerteans from the Eastern Indian Ocean. In addition to those collected by the Percy Sladen Expedition, we bave been able to examine a collection made by Mr. Oyril Crossland at and near Zanzibar, and also a few procured by Professor Herdman from Ceylon. To these two gentlemen we desire to express our thanks. Other specimens reached us besides those described below, but owing to their imperfect condition or to their unsatisfactory preservation we have not included them in our account. | Before my departure to Java I intended to give a monographic revision of the Neuropteroidea of Insulinde, but want of time and of sufficient materials forced me to give up this intention and I restricted it to the monographic revision of the MECOPTERA and PLANIPENNIA, the two orders I studied with special attention since 3 years in behalf of the „Catalogue des collections du baron E. de Sélys Lougchamps”. The territories that I name Insulinde are the Dutch colonies of the malayan and papuan archipelago. I describe also the species known from those parts of Borneo and New Guinea, that do not belong to the dutch possessions, as they very probably also will occur in them. Those of neighbouring countries are noted so far as they are important for comparison. |

| Die Gattung Ostrea ist von Java verhältnissmässig schlecht vertreten, was vielleicht eine Folge ungenügender Aufsammlung ist, und unter den hierher gehörigen Versteinerungen befinden sich verschiedene, die wegen unvollkommener Ueberlieferung überhaupt unberücksichtigt geblieben sind. Auch die folgende Liste, welche alle bis jetzt von Java bekannten Arten umfasst, enthält ausser den beiden unbenannten noch mehrere recht unvollkommen bekannte Formen, zu denen in erster Linie O. incisa MART. und O. bataviana MART. gehören. | In my paper oil the Avifauna of the Netherlands, which I published in the preceding volume of this periodical, I gave a list of all the species observed in our country and an account of the most interesting specimens in the collection of our Museum, with the number of the specimens of each species received during the last years. In those four years, from 1 September 1904 till 1 September 1908, the collection of indigenous birds has been enlarged with about 1900 skins, by donation as well as by purchase. | Unter den umfangreichen Sammlungen, die F. Junghuhn auf Java zusammengebracht hatte, befand sich auch eine grosse Anzahl von Echiniden. Sie wurden im Jahre 1854 durch Herklots ¹) beschrieben. Dieser Autor war offenbar von der vorgefassten Meinung ausgegangen, dass es sich hier um eine ganz neue und fremdartige Fauna handele, so war von ihm nur eine einzige Form mit einer lebenden Art identifiziert worden. Auf Grund seiner Beschreibung schrieb man dieser Echinodermenfauna von Java lange Zeit hindurch nicht nur ein hohes Alter innerhalb des Tertiärs sondern überhaupt einen besonders altertümlichen Charakter zu. 1880 unterzog K. Martin die Echiniden der Junghuhnschen Sammlung einer eingehenden Revision und kam zu wesentlich anderen Ergebnissen als Herklots.... |

| In my paper „0n a Bhawania-specimen, a contribution to our knowledge of tbe Chrysopetalidae” (Notes from the Leyden Museum, Vol. XXX, p. 219, pl. 9) to my great regret I omitted to mention Bhawania Goodei, described by Webster in his „Annelida from Bermuda” (Bulletin of of the United States National Museum, N°. 25, 1884, p. 307). Like as with our specimen, unfortunately no good view of the head was obtained; also the different structure of the upper- and underside of the paleae has not been recognized by Webster. I overlooked also two other species, described by Johnson in his „Preliminary account of the marine Annelids of the Pacific Coast” (Proceed. | The Leyden Museum has recently received a small collection of Coleoptera from the island of Java, brought together and presented by Mr. Edw. Jacobson. Among these beetles I found a specimen of a species of the genus Adelotopus Hope, belonging to the interesting family of Pseudomorphidae (Carabicidae), which species certainly has not yet been described. I am acquainted with the description of only two other species of Adelotopus out of Australia, viz. Adelotopus collaris Waterh.¹) from Siam and Adelotopus papuanus Gestro ²) from Papuasia. | About 8 months ago I finished my monograph of the Megaloptera (Sialidae) for the „Catalogue des Collections Zoologiques du baron E. de Selys Longchamps.” Though the work is since ready for the press, it cannot yet be printed. As there are many new genera and species described in it and because other workers in this interesting family might describe them before my monograph has been published, I give here short descriptions of them in order to secure their priority. This order of insects, separated from the other Neuroptera and especially from the Planipennia under the name of Megaloptera, contains two families: the primitive Sialidae and the much higher specialised Raphidiidae. |

| Die erste Koralle aus dem Tertiär von Java ist 1864 durch Duncan vom Goenoeng Sela im Tji Lanangtal beschrieben worden. 1867 hat dann Reuss die erste grössere Suite von Tertiärkorallen bearbeitet, die v. Hochstetter anlässlich der Novara-Expedition gesammelt hatte. Das Material stammte ebenfalls vom Goenoeng Sela im Tji Lanangtal mit Ausnahme einer Koralle, die einer Breccie bei Tjoekang Raon in der Lalangkette entnommen wurde. 1879—80 erschien die erste umfangreiche Bearbeitung von Tertiärfossilien aus Java, nach den Aufsammlungen F. Junghuhns durch K. Martin. Darunter befand sich auch eine erhebliche Anzahl neuer Korallen von verschiedenen Fundpunkten.
