In most functional-structural plant models, light is only considered as a consumable resource and plantsare usually assumed to be blind to light signals (FSPM04). However, the perception of these signals bythe plant is now well documented (e.g. Smith, 1997) and light quality is considered to play a key role inthe changes of plant's architecture and the dynamics of vegetation (e.g. Ballaré et al, 1997). In order tointroduce the photomorphogenesis process in FSPM, it is necessary to determine how the perception ofthe light signal occurs on the whole plant. Effects of commercial enzymes on the adhesion of a marine biofilm-forming bacterium ArchiMer

The antifouling potential of commercial hydrolases, four proteases, seven glycosidases and one lipase was evaluated on the adhesion of marine Pseudoalteromonas sp. D41. The experimental method, adapted to screen antifouling agents, was based on bacterial adhesion in natural sterile sea water in a microtiter plate and on total biomass quantification by the fluorescent dye DAPI (4[prime]6-diamidino-2-phenylindole). Savinase (subtilisin) was the most effective hydrolase in both the prevention of bacterial adhesion and the removal of adhered bacteria. However, some enzymatic preparations tested such as Amano protease were not only ineffective but also increased the number of adhered bacterial cells. 1. One major gap in our ability to predict the impacts of climate change is a quantitative analysis of temperatures experienced by organisms under natural conditions. We developed a framework to describe and quantify the impacts of local climate on the mosaic of microclimates and physiological states of insects within tree canopies. This approach was applied to a leaf mining moth feeding on apple leaf tissues.2. Canopy geometry was explicitly considered by mapping the 3D position and orientation of more than 26 000 leaves in an apple tree.
