A number of studies have focused on the selection and use of new biocontrol agents, but the effects of the introduction of these microorganisms on non-target organisms, including the crop plants themselves, are not well known. Non-target effects of sprayed applications of a potential biocontrol agent of apple powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha Ell. Et Ev.), on scab infections (Venturia inaequalis Cooke Winter), on codling moth [Cydia pomonella L. Epicuticular waxes and plant primary metabolites on the surfaces of juvenile Eucalyptus globulus and E.nitens (Myrtaceae) leaves Inra

Our knowledge of the composition of the waxes on the surfaces of Eucalyptus leaves is growing but that of plant primary metabolites has been completely overlooked. The diffusion of primary metabolites above the cuticle exposes them to a variety of herbivorous taxa and has the potential to influence their responses to that plant. Juvenile leaves of two families of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. ssp. globulus and two families of E. nitens (Deane & Maiden) Maiden had 11 out of 16 of the epicuticular waxes that were detected in common. Etude d’une méthode d’échantillonnage séquentiel appliquée à l’estimation du nombre de pontes de la pyrale du maïs Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. (Lepidoptera-Pyralidae) Inra

En vue d’estimer le nombre moyen de pontes de pyrale de maïs au champ avec une certaine précision, les auteurs proposent une méthode d'échantillonnage séquentiel. Une étude sur la liaison entre la moyenne et la variance du nombre de pontes par plante est faite sur plusieurs années, sur des essais parcellaires en Beauce. Une idée de la taille de l’échantillonnage à examiner est donnée en fonction de la précision choisie et de la moyenne obtenue. Certaines remarques sont faites en ce qui concerne des difficultés pratiques et des conseils d’utilisation sont donnés.

Influence de la teneur en glucides solubles des feuilles de Zea mays L. sur le choix du site de ponte de la pyrale, Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. (Lepid. Pyralidae) Inra

Le choix du site de ponte par Ostrinia nubilalis (Hbn.) varie avec l’hybride de maïs. Une tentative d’explication biochimique de ce choix est entreprise sur l’hybride le plus favorable à la ponte. Elle consiste, par passage prolongé de la plante à l’obscurité, à faire varier la teneur en glucides solubles des feuilles et à examiner les répercussions sur le comportement de l’insecte. Les femelles de pyrale pondent beaucoup moins sur les plantes appauvries et la répartition des ooplaques sur la plante est également modifiée. Une corrélation est établie entre le nombre d’ooplaques déposées sur la plante, la teneur en saccharose et, à un moindre degré, la teneur en glucose de ses feuilles.

Species-specific composition of free amino acids on the leaf surface of four Senecio species Inra

The specificity of the chemical composition of the leaf surface of four Senecio species was studied in order to understand the host selection of Tyria jacobaeae, a monophagous moth that has Senecio jacobaea as its principal host plant. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids characteristic for Senecio species were not detected in water and sulfuric acid extracts of the leaf surface of Senecio jacobaea. Water extracts of the leaf surfaces of S. jacobaea, S. vulgaris, S. viscosus, and S. sylvaticus contained low concentrations of free amino acids.
