According with the studies realized the litter from peach palm (pupunha) contibutes with only 110 g/ha or 0,1% of total soil C to the C budget of the system. On the other hand it produces high quantities of root exudates. About 16.500 kg/ha C or 15% of total soil C respectively are released into the soil. Taking into account the C loss by microbial respiration and root respiration peach palm contributes with 10.700 kg/ha or 10% of total soil C respectively to the C budget of the system. Compared to C from root exudates the quantity of C from microbial biobass under peach palm is low. Only 45 kg/ha or 0,0004% of the total C originate from the microbial biomass.

In two different cultivation systems we investigated the microbial biomass and activity in the rhizosphere of Theobroma grandiflorum and Bactris gasipaes, two important crop plants in sustainable agriculture in Brazil during rainy and dry season 1998.

In two different cultivation systems it was investigated the microbial biomass and activity in the rhizosphere of Theobroma grandiflorum and Bactris gasipaes, in the Manaus-AM (Brasil). Positive correlation coefficients between microbial biomass, microbial respiration and gravimetric water potential indicate that water is the main factor that influences and activity of microorganisms in both cultivation systems.

It was isolated bacteria from the rhizosphere of two perennial crop plants (cupuacu and pupunha) growing on the SHIFT experimental site near Manaus-AM (Brasil). More than 70% of the isolates were capable to grow in the presence of Fe and Al phosphate as a sole P source. The two bacteria chosen for further studies were identfied as Bacillus sp and Gordonia sp.

Solubilization of Al- and Fe-phosphates by bacteria isolated from the rhizosphere of Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) Schum. Repositório Alice

One hyndred sixty-eight bacterial isolates from the rhizoplane and rhizosphere (2mm-10mm away from the root surface) of cupuacu were isolated in spring 1997 in an experimental polyculture site (SHIFT ENV-23) near Manaus and their capacity to grow on media with poorly soluble AlPO4 was determined. 75% of the isolated bacteria were found to be effective in solubilizing hardly-soluble AlPO4 and FePO4. Two strains were selected because of their ability to solubilize high amounts (>50ug P/ml) of AlPO4 and FePO4 in former experiments. Their capacity to solubilize inorganic phosphates was investigated in liquid culture. Both strains solubilized similar amounts of P.
