Effects of an organic vegetable production on on-farm and off-farm income: A case study of farmer group in Nong Saeng village, Northeastern Thailand Thai Agricultural

Twenty six households in Nong Saeng village, Khon Kaen province in Northeast Thailand (NET) participated in an informal education program and formed a farmers’ group in a project called Organic Vegetable Production for Self Reliance (OVPSR). Twenty out of the 26 households, 2 group leaders and an extension officer working in the village participated in semi-structured interviews (SSI) regarding project activities and its impact on the household incomes. On the average, 20 farmers received only 36.8% of their income from on-farm production, whereas off farm activities contributed 59.6% of their income. Farmers' knowledge regarding organic vegetables cultivation in northeast Thailand Thai Agricultural

The study was conducted to determine farmers’ knowledge on organic vegetables cultivation. The study also attempted to describe some selected characteristics of organic vegetables cultivation and explore the relationships with knowledge on organic vegetables cultivation. A survey method of face-to-face interview using semi structured questionnaire was used to collect data from organic vegetable growers in Samsung, Khon Kaen, and Northeast Thailand which was selected by using simple random sampling method. KKN01041-23-2-1-1 : ข้าวเจ้าไม่ไวต่อช่วงแสงสายพันธุ์ดีเด่น สำหรับภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ Thai Agricultural

KKN01041-23-2-1-1 is a non-glutinous and non-photoperiod sensitive promising line derived from a three-way cross. The cross was made in 2004 at Khon Kaen Rice Research Centre, using PTT1 as a female parent and the line derived from the cross between Hawm Supanburi and Jao Hawm Nin as a male parent. The selected line; KKN01041-23-2-1-1, was evaluated in the inter-station yield trials for irrigated rice lines in north eastern Thailand during 2006-2011, and it gave an average yield of 620 kg/rai. This line was also evaluated in farmers' field trials in north eastern Thailand during 2008-2012 in both wet and dry season. The selected promising line; KKN04023-NKI-14-2-6-1, was finally obtained. The promising line was selected from the population of the cross between PTT97100-B-116-3-3 and KKN97031-NKI-B-B-122-1-1 which PTT97100-B-116-3-3 was used as female parent and KKN97031-NKI-B-B-122-1-1 as male parent. Population abundance of pink mealybug, Phenacoccus manihoti on four cassava varieties Thai Agricultural

Four cassava varieties, Kasetsart 50, Huay Bong 60, Rayong 9 and Rayong 72 were observed for mealybug in a survey that was conducted in Kalasin Province, Khon Kaen province and Udon Thani Province from November 2011 to September 2012. The infestation of pink mealybug was counted in five levels, 0 level 0 mealybug, 1st level (1-9), 2nd level (10-99), 3rd level (100-999) and 4th level (≥1,000). On the other hand, leaf curl level was categorized into five scores as follows; margin declined slightly was categorized at normal was categorized at level 0, margin declined slightly at level 1, shoot stunted at level 2, shoot distorted at level 3 and leaves fall at level 4. An effective nutrient management for plant cane production on sandy soil was investigated. This aimed to be a guideline of fertilizer recommendation for plant cane production on sandy soil in the Northeast of Thailand. The experiment was conducted in Ban Phai soil series at Khon Kaen Province. The experimental design was split-split plot with 3 replications. Main plots comprised 1) without soil amendment and 2) amendment with 100 kg/rai of dolomite and 1,000 kg/rai of filtercake compost. Subplots consisted of Khon Kaen 3 and LK92-11 sugarcane varieties. Sub-subplots were fertilizer application levels i.e. 0-6-18, 9-6-18, 18-6-18, and 27-6-18 kg N-P2O5-K2O/rai. Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), is a major insect pest of rice in Thailand.Because of their ability to adapt to host plant and environment, the BPH becomes an extremely destructive pest and difficult to control. The purpose of this research is to monitor the insecticide resistance of BPH in North Eastern (NE) Thailand. The BPH populations were collected from the outbreak areas in 9provinces during 2011 to 2012. The toxicity (LD50) of 10 insecticides was conducted using Topical bioassay method. The results showed that the BPH populations from 7 provinces were resistant to ethiprole and isoprocarb. This study aims to evaluate the farmers' preference to promising irrigated rice lines grown in farmers' fields in north eastern Thailand during wet season 2013. The preference analyses were carried out at 2 stages; at reproductive stage to evaluate for agronomic characteristics, and after harvest to evaluate for grain physical qualities and cooking qualities. Two sets of promising lines were evaluated; glutinous and non-glutinous set. At the reproductive stage, the preference analyses were carried out in 3 provinces. Aim of this research was to investigate physical characters and some chemical characters of northeast local rice grain of Thailand. Physical characters were studied in term of weight, width and size of seed and dehusked seed including elongation rate and water absorption rate of 15 rice cultivars (cv.). Chemical test were checked by protein content, amylose content, lipid content, carbohydrate content, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3 and vitamin B6 content. การสำรวจความแปรปรวนของคุณภาพข้าวหอมมะลิ Thai Agricultural

The survey was conducted in 2013 in order to collect the information on production management of Kao Dawk Mali rice from various sources, i.e. seed sources, farmers' fields, local mills in the area of north eastern and upper northern Thailand, and also from the exporters. The samples of Kao Dawk Mali rice were taken for evaluating their grain physical and chemical properties. The content of 2-Acetyl-1-Pyroline (2AP) of those samples were measured in order to evaluate for their aromatic levels. Soil samples from each farmers' fields were also taken to analyse for soil texture, soil pH, soil nutrients and soil organic matter. Study on changes of starch viscosity and cooking quality of northeastern rainfed lowland rice lines aims to gather basic information on grain quality for each promising line in order to plan for further product development. In 2012, the experiment was conducted on 6 promising lines, which include 5 non-glutinous lines, i.e. UBN03007-47-7-9-7-80-54, UBN03007-47-7-7-26-35-19, UBN03005-6-3-26-10-21-27, UBN02123-50(R)-B-3, UBN03005-6-3-26-10-49-10 and 1 glutinous line; RGD05282-3-3.
