Acquisition de nouvelles données sur l'équipement sensoriel des glossines (Diptera, Glossinidae) IRD

Une étude conduite sur trois espèces de glossines (#Glossina tachinoides$, #G. morsitans morsitans$ et #G. fuscipes fuscipes$) au moyen du microscope électronique à balayage (MEB) a permis d'acquérir de nouvelles données sur la morphologie et la localisation de certains organes sensoriels : les premières photographies illustrant la morphologie des soies proprioceptives de l'organe prothoracique sont présentées, et pour la première fois est signalée l'existence de soies, probablement mécanoréceptrices, sur le ptilinum et de soies chimioréceptrices sur la nervure costale des ailes. BackgroundThe skills used by winged insects to explore their environment are strongly dependent upon the integration of neurosensory information comprising visual, acoustic and olfactory signals. The neuronal architecture of the wing contains a vast array of different sensors which might convey information to the brain in order to guide the trajectories during flight. In Drosophila, the wing sensory cells are either chemoreceptors or mechanoreceptors and some of these sensors have as yet unknown functions. The axons of these two functionally distinct types of neurons are entangled, generating a single nerve. Drones had been selected for special features of their wing structure. Afterwards they were mated, by means of artificial insemination, with queen carrying similar wing features. The line "Trifolium", bred by this method, showed several characteristics with little variability. Eighteen offspring-queens of this line were placed in a mating-yard, which had no other colonies in a circle of 5.6km diameters, with carefully selected drones. Using the wing-structure as criterion one was able to demonstrate that only queens (15%) had mated with the desired drones, while the remaining queens had mated with drones of unknown origin. Des populations de pyrale du maïs de plein champ, issues d’infestations artificielles réalisées tout au long du mois de juillet, ont été étudiées en 1984 dans les stations I.N.R.A. de Colmar et Versailles et en 1985 et 1986 à Versailles uniquement. L’utilisation de critères physiologiques tels que la tréhalosémie et l’observation des disques imaginaux alaires permet de mieux comprendre les différentes étapes caractérisant leur diapause. L’entrée apparente et la sortie de diapause s’effectuent au même moment quelles que soient la date d’infestation des pieds de maïs et l’origine géographique des pyrales. We compared bilateral structures (wings) of flying versus non-flying insects in two lines of #P. megistus$ which differed only by their laboratory maintenance time : PM1 (more than five generations in insectarium) and PM2 (one or two generations under laboratory conditions). Insects were processed according to Schofield (1980) and observed through a period of 30 days. During this time the insects that had flight (gf, for "good" flyers) and their wings extracted for morphometry. At the end of this period the same number of insects that did not fly (bf, for "bad" flyers), were used as a control and submitted to the same analysis.
