Decomposition of European beech (Fagus sylvatica) litter: Combining quality theory and 15N labelling experiments Inra

A multi-site and multi-age set of in situ 15N-labelled litter decomposition experiments was carried out in various European beech forests. The sites presented contrasted situations of climate and humus type that were representative of northern Europe temperate forests. 15N-labelled leaf litter was produced by urea spraying in an experimental beech plot, and was used in litter decomposition experiments over a 3–6-year period, depending on the site. Schemes of decomposition covered a wide range of situations, some of them not expected, like high decay rate on Moder humus forms or slow decomposition on Mull humus form. Estimating N transfers between N2-fixing actinorhizal species and the non-N2-fixing Prunus avium under partially controlled conditions Inra

Two methods of N transfer between plants—by litter decomposition and root-to-root exchange—were examined in mixed plantations of N-fixing and non-fixing trees. Nitrogen transfers from decaying litters were measured by placing 15N-labelled litters from four actinorhizal tree species around shoots of containerized Prunus avium. Nitrogen transfers by root-to-root exchanges were measured after foliar NO3-15N fertilization of Alnus subcordata and Elaeagnus angustifolia growing in containers in association with P. avium. During the first 2 years of litter decomposition, from 5–20% of the N, depending on the litter identity, was released and taken up by P. avium. Sesbania rostrata, légumineuse à nodules caulinaires : fixation symbiotique d'azote, et utilisation comme engrais vert IRD

Des souches de #Rhizobium$ isolées de #Sesbania rostrata$ provenant de différents lieux géographiques du Sénégal, ont été analysées. Leur comparaison avec la "souche de tige" de référence ORS571 a permis de mettre en évidence des différences au niveau des parentés immunologiques, du contenu plasmidique, de l'activité nitrogénase en condition de dérépression, et de l'efficience de la symbiose. L'azote combiné, ammoniacal ou nitrique affecte à la fois la nodulation et l'activité réductrice d'acétylène des nodules caulinaires et racinaires, mais les nodules racinaires sont plus affectés que les nodules caulinaires. L'étude cytologique des nodules caulinaires en microscopie électronique a montré qu'en présence de fortes doses d'azote combiné la dernière phase...
