Diallel analysis for grain yield and mineral absorption rate os soybeans grown in acid brazilian Savannah soil. Repositório Alice
SPEHAR, C.R..
High available aluminium and low levels of calcium below the ploughed zone of the soil are limiting factors for agricultural sustainability in the Brazilian Cerrados (Savannahs). The mineral stresses compound with dry spells effect by preventing deep root growth of cultivated plants and causes yield instability. The mode of inheritance for grain yield and mineral absorption ratio of a diallel cross in soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) grown in high and low Al areas was identified. Differences among the genotypes for grain yield were more evident in the high Al, by grouping tolerant and non-tolerant genotypes for their respective arrays in the hybrids. A large proportion of genetic variance was additive for grain yield and mineral absorption ratio in both...

Generation mean analysis of root growth under aluminium-stress hydroponics in the soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). Repositório Alice
SPEHAR, C.R.; GALWEY, N.W..
There are vast areas in the tropics which are limited in their use by mineral stresses such as aluminium and low available nutrients. The grain crops shall be further adapted if breeding programmes include identification and use of the genetic factors to these hindrances. Three soybean families originated from crosses, selfing and backcrosses among the varieties IAC-2, IAC-7, IAC-9 and Biloxi were used in scaling tests to identify their genetic differences to aluminium tolerance by evaluating root growth in Al-stress hydroponics. The results indicate that this is a polygene trait with predominantly additive effects. However, the espistalic effect is also present and should de take into account in a breeding programme. Recurrent selection feasible because...

Impacts of citrus pulp addition and wilting on elephant grass silage quality. Repositório Alice
GOMES, R. dos S.; ALMEIDA, J. C. de C.; CARNEIRO, J. da C.; AZEVEDO, F. H. V.; LISTA, F. N.; ELYAS, A. C. W.; OLIVEIRA, T. S. de.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of citrus pulp addition and wilting on fermentative characteristics, chemical composition as well as gas and effluent losses of elephant grass silage. The elephant grass (70 growth days) was collected manually; one portion was immediately chopped and another one was allowed to wilt in the sun for a period of 6 h and subsequently chopped for the production of silage. Experimental PVC silos (10 cm diameter x 30 cm height) were used and sand bags were placed at the bottom of the silos. Citrus pulp (80 g kg-1 of MN) was added at the beginning of ensilage. The ensiled material was manually compressed to provide a specific mass of approximately 600 kg m-3 of silage. After 60 days, the silos were opened; gas and...

Inheritance of type I glandular trichomes in Cucumis melo National Institute of Agronomic Research
Palomares-Rius, F.J.; Sarria, E.; Alba, J.M.; Gómez-Guillamón, M.L..
A high density of glandular trichomes of Type I could contribute to enhance resistance to Aphis gossypii in melon breeding programs with the Vat gene. To study the inheritance of this trait, a six-generation genetic family was obtained from the cross between the accession TGR-1551, with high density of glandular trichomes and the Spanish cultivar ‘Bola de oro’ with low trichome density. The genetic model estimated showed that the Type I trichome density followed an oligogenic inheritance with important additive effect and strong epistatic effect between heterozygous loci. The values for broad sense heritability (H2) and narrow sense heritability (h2) were 0.86 and 0.50, respectively, which made this character suitable for breeding.
