Acute pancreatitis associated with lamivudine therapy for chronic B hepatitis BJID
Tuon,Felipe Francisco; Guastini,Cristina Maria de Fátima; Boulos,Maria Ivete Castro.
Hyperamylasemia is a common complication during lamivudine use. We report a case of a pancreatitis following lamivudine therapy. A careful monitoring of amylase levels during treatment with lamivudine is discussed, mainly in the first weeks, considering the cost of this exam and further complication.

Caractérisation de marqueurs génétiques fonctionnels de la nutrition et/ou de l'adaptation (les amylases) chez l'huître creuse Crassostrea gigas : intérêts pour la sélection ArchiMer
Prudence, Marie.
Two amylase genes, A and B, from the oyster Crassostrea gigas were characterized. Using PCR-RFLP, 6 and 4 alleles, respectively, were described for the amylase genes A and B. The roles of A and B amylase genes were investigated experimentally. They are expressed during larval and adult stages, and A transcripts are more abundant than B. The A transcript increases significantly with temperature, in high trophic conditions. However, A and B transcript levels do not change when food quantity increases although amylase activity augments. The level of B is correlated with dietary starch quantities, whereas the amount of A appears to remain constant ; simultaneously amylase activity decreases and the KM increases. These results suggest that expression of B is...

Digestibilidad in vitro de carbohidratos en la langosta espinosa Panulirus argus (Latreille, 1804) OceanDocs
Casuso, A.; Rodríguez-Viera, L.; Perera, E..

Extraction of amylase from fermentation broth in poly (Ethylene Glycol) salt aqueous two-phase system BABT
Bezerra,Raquel Pedrosa; Borba,Fernanda Katharine Sousa Lins; Moreira,Keila Aparecida; Lima-Filho,José Luis; Porto,Ana Lúcia Figueiredo; Chaves,Adilson Castro.
Studies were carried out on the partition of amylase from Bacillus subtilis in a minimal medium at 37 ºC and 110 rpm. Enzyme recovery was carried out in aqueous two-phase system PEG-Phosphate salt were carried out. The best purification factor (5.4) was obtained in system PEG 1000 (16.7% w/w) with potassium phosphate (14.8% w/w), at pH 6.0, resulting in a recovery of 45.2% activity enzymatic in the salt-rich phase.

Extremely thermophilic microorganisms and their polymer-hidrolytic enzymes Rev. Microbiol.
Andrade,Carolina M.M.C.; Pereira Jr.,Nei; Antranikian,Garo.
Thermophilic and hyperthermophilic microorganisms are found as normal inhabitants of continental and submarine volcanic areas, geothermally heated sea-sediments and hydrothermal vents and thus are considered extremophiles. Several present or potential applications of extremophilic enzymes are reviewed, especially polymer-hydrolysing enzymes, such as amylolytic and hemicellulolytic enzymes. The purpose of this review is to present the range of morphological and metabolic features among those microorganisms growing from 70oC to 100°C and to indicate potential opportunities for useful applications derived from these features.

Screening for carbohydrate-binding proteins in extracts of Uruguayan plants BJMBR
Plá,A.; Alonso,E.; Batista-Viera,F.; Franco Fraguas,L..
The presence of carbohydrate-binding proteins, namely lectins, ß-galactosidases and amylases, was determined in aqueous extracts of plants collected in Uruguay. Twenty-six extracts were prepared from 15 Uruguayan plants belonging to 12 Phanerogam families. Among them, 18 extracts caused hemagglutination (HAG) that was inhibited by mono- and disaccharides in 13 cases, indicating the presence of lectins. The other 8 extracts did not cause any HAG with the four systems used to detect HAG activity (rabbit and mouse red cells, trypsin-treated rabbit and mouse red cells). For the extracts prepared from Solanum commersonii, HAG activity and HAG inhibition were similar for those prepared from tubers, leaves and fruits, with the chitocompounds being responsible for...

Simultaneous production of amylases and proteases by Bacillus subtilis in brewery wastes BJM
Blanco,Alina Sánchez; Durive,Osmar Palacios; Pérez,Sulema Batista; Montes,Zoraida Díaz; Guerra,Nelson Pérez.
ABSTRACT The simultaneous production of amylase (AA) and protease (PA) activity by Bacillus subtilis UO-01 in brewery wastes was studied by combining the response surface methodology with the kinetic study of the process. The optimum conditions (T = 36.0 °C and pH = 6.8) for high biomass production (0.92 g/L) were similar to the conditions (T = 36.8 °C and pH = 6.6) for high AA synthesis (9.26 EU/mL). However, the maximum PA level (9.77 EU/mL) was obtained at pH 7.1 and 37.8 °C. Under these conditions, a considerably high reduction (between 69.9 and 77.8%) of the initial chemical oxygen demand of the waste was achieved. In verification experiments under the optimized conditions for production of each enzyme, the AA and PA obtained after 15 h of incubation...

Structural and regulatory differences in amylase isoenzymes in germinating Brazilian barley cultivars Genet. Mol. Biol.
Georg-Kraemer,J.E.; Cavalli,S.S..
The amylase electrophoretic patterns of 10 Brazilian brewing-barley varieties with different malting grades and diastatic power were analyzed during the 7-day germination which occurs during the malting process. Intra and inter-variety genetic variability was observed at both the structural and regulatory level. In the first few days after germination all varieties showed a few active loci, all of them with low activity. In subsequent days, new loci became active and those already detected since early germination showed increased activity. All varieties showed a continuous increase in amylase synthesis until the 3rd and/or 4th day after germination. Some varieties maintained high amylase activity until the last day of germination, while others showed a...
