'Bordô' grapevines (Vitis labrusca) have great relevance to viticulture due to the quality they can impart to wines and juices. However, this cultivar has high variation in yield, ranging from 6 to 11 t ha-1. The use of clones with superior genetic potential related to scions currently marketed may increase crop profitability and revitalize its cultivation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomical responses of twelve clones of the Bordô cultivar selected over a period of 15 years according to yield and quality. La variabilidad del color de grano en 114 poblaciones criollas de maíz se clasificó en seis grupos, en el ciclo agrícola PV-2003. Se seleccionaron seis poblaciones, una del blanco, una del amarillo, una del rojo (rojo-2), dos del azul (azul-1 y azul-2) y una del púrpura (rojo-1), para establecer un sistema de cruzas dialélicas en el ciclo agrícola PV-2004. Análise e identificação das antocianinas de couve rôxa (Brassica spp.) IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

A couve rôxa é uma espécie comestível com uma composição em antocianinas rica e complexa. Sabe-se que contem antocianinas poliglicosiladas, aciladas com um ou mesmo dois grupos acilo aromáticos, nomeadamente com ácidos coumárico e caféico. Este padrão de acilação é particularmente interessante, porque confere estabilidade às antocianinas e aumenta o seu potencial de utilização em aplicações famacêuticas, alimentares e cosméticas. Este estudo tem por objectivo determinar a estrutura das antocianinas de variedades de couve rôxa cultivadas em Portugal, com vista ao seu aproveitamento industrial.

Abstract The Andean Blueberry (Vaccinium floribundum) is a fruit with a recognized antioxidant capacity. Its consumption is limited to typical food in the Andean Ecuadorian zones. In this study, the effect of the addition of Andean blueberry (AB) pulp on loaf bread quality was determined. The specific volume was affected by the low fermentation rate due to the acidic pH of the fruit. The texture profile measurement demonstrated a product with harder consistency, due to the low number and circularity of the alveoli. Higher air retention in the crumb was also found. Simulated Gastrointestinal conditions directly affected the antioxidant capacity of the AB, producing a reduction of 96.9%. On the other hand, the AB bread initially presented a value of 37 μM...

Anthocyanin pigments in strawberry IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

The anthocyanin composition was analysed in strawberry fruits from five different cultivars (cv. Eris, Oso Grande, Carisma, Tudnew and Camarosa). Twenty-five defined anthocyanin pigments were detected, most of them containing Pelargonidin (Pg) as aglycone; some cyanidin (Cy) derivatives were also found. Glucose and rutinose were the usual substituting sugars, although arabinose and rhamnose were also tentatively identified; some minor anthocyanins showed acylation with aliphatic acids. Anthocyanin stability: a chemometrical approach IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

The stability of cyanidin 3-glucoside towards five different factors (pH, anthocyanin concentration, sodium chloride concentration, ascorbic acid concentration, Oxygen) was studied during 60 days storage at room temperature using a 2^4-1 reduced factorial design. The influence of each individual parameter on anthocyanin stability was found to vary as a function of time. Sodium chloride and ascorbic acid were, respectively, the variables most contributing to and against anthocyanin stability. Results suggest there may be some degree of interaction between anthocyanin/ascorbic acid, and between pH/Oxygen, affecting anthocyanin degradation.

Anthocyanin trisaccharides in blue berries of Vaccinium padifolium IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

Delphinidin 3-O-alfa-rhamnoside, malvidin 3-O-(6''-O-alfa-rhamnopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranoside) and the 3-O-(6''-O-alfa-rhamnopyranosyl-2''-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranosides) of cyanidin, petunidin and peonidin were isolated by various chromatographic techniques from the edible berries of Vaccinium padifolium. Their complete structures were elucidated mainly by one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Together they account for 7% of the anthocyanin content in this species. No anthocyanidin 3-triglycoside, 3-rutinoside or 3-rhamnoside had previously been found in the genus Vaccinium. The 3-O-(6''-O-alfa- rhamnopyranosyl-2''-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranosides) of petunidin and peonidin are novel compounds.

Anthocyanins are secondary plant metabolites responsible for the blue, purple, and red color of many plant tissues. The phenolic structure of anthocyanins conveys marked antioxidant activity in model systems via donation of electrons or hydrogen atoms from hydroxyl moieties to free radicals. Dietary intakes of anthocyanins may exceed 200 mg/day, however, little is known about their antioxidant potency in vivo. Anthocyanins from pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

The anthocyanin contents in the fruits from three cultivars of Punica granatum L. (asseria, mollar and negral) was studied. Six anthocyanins were isolated from the red seeds of pomegranate fruits using a combination of Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and reverse-phase semi-preparative HPLC. On the basis of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, they were identified as the 3-monoglucosides and 3,5-diglucosides of delphinidin, cyanidin and pelargonidin. Anthocyanins in blue berries of Vaccinium padifolium IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

Twenty anthocyanins were isolated from the extract of the edible blue berries of Vaccinium padifolium (Uveira) by a combination of chromatographic techniques. Mainly on the basis of nuclear magnetic resonance techniques (1H, COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC, SEFT) they were identified as the 3-O-beta-glucopyranosides, 3-O-beta-galactopyranosides, 3-O-beta-arabinopyranosides and 3-O-sambubiosides (2'-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-O-beta-glucopyranosides) of delphinidin, cyanidin, petunidin,malvidin and peonidin. Anthocyanidin disaccharides have not been identified in the genus Vaccinium previously, and the 3-sambubiosides of peonidin, petunidin and malvidin are novel compounds.

Availability of analytical standards is a critical aspect in developing methods for quantitative analysis of anthocyanins. The anthocyanins cyanidin-3-O-glucoside and cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside were isolated from samples of freeze-dried açaí (Euterpe oleraceae Mart.), which is a round and purple well-known palm fruit in Brazil, and then used as standards. The isolation of the anthocyanins was performed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), using an adapted six-channel selection valve. Anthocyanins from 12 acerola genotypes cultivated at the Active Germplasm Bank at Federal Rural University of Pernambuco were isolated for antioxidant potential evaluation. The antioxidant activity and radical scavenging capacity of the anthocyanin isolates were measured according to the β-carotene bleaching method and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay, respectively. The antioxidant activity varied from 25.58 to 47.04% at 0.2 mg.mL-1, and it was measured using the β-carotene bleaching method. The white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, is the most commonly grown mushroom in Iran; however, there is a significant shortage of research on its antioxidant activity and other medicinal properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate antioxidant capacity of the methanolic extracts from four cultivated strains and four Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS)-identified, Iranian wild isolates of A. bisporus. We evaluated the genotype and maturity effects on antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds of whole, skin and pulp fruits from three highbush blueberry cultivare (cv. Brigitta, cv. Bluegold and cv. Legacy) grown in southern Chile. Total antioxidant activity (TAA) in ripe fruits varied among the cultivare in the order Legacy > Brigitta > Bluegold. We found that TAA in unripe green and fully ripe fruits was high and similar between them, whereas the lowest levels were found in intermediate ripe fruits. The same trend was observed for fruit total phenolic content.
